found this on youtube

i would have thought the vig would do better from a 3rd gear pull but i guess not

The STi seemed pretty modded, and a Vig should beat a STi stock vs stock. With that said, I've yet to meet an STi guy who still has his car stock, and it would take more than just an exhaust to beat a mildly modified STi.

Maybe if that viggen had this much power he would have won

Why does the STi let off as SOON as he gets past the saab? Doesn't really show me much. He might run out of steam and the Saab could catch up... Might not, but it still leaves me wondering :? I have personally seen a stock viggen beat a stock sti from a roll, but hey, I don't expect everyone to believe it. Both are quick cars.

If we wasn't a dumbass, he also had a tune. That said, he was in the area of 300AWTQ and the same for AWHP, roughly. Which puts him at Stage II

For reference; the dyno at P&L shows roughly 240/240 for a stock STI, and around 300 on hp and tq on a stage II car..

It's about $400 for the 3" turbo-back, and the EM can range from free to $600. $600 including dyno pulls and a custom tune on Cobb software.

From a roll your viggen should be every bit as quick as a "STOCK" Sti. My Stage 3+ 9-3 will roll an STi and I am making in the area of 260-270WHP.

Roll racing is way different than a dig race and the 1/4 mile performance means nothing when you are considering the 2. You really have to take into consideration powerband, torque, gear ratios all kinds of things to figure out the roll racing math.

The video is very speculative to me... I never saw the Viggen even show signs of hard acceleration except for the very start of the video.

I demand a re-roll!!

Its a silly argument anyways, we all know stock STi's don't exist.

Seriously though, stock for stock it can go in either cars favor depending on a ton of factors. We all know the STi is the faster car overall though.

in the 3ed gear pull you can see brake lights light up street signs behind them. someone was brake boosting... and since stock saabs cant do that i think it might have been the sti which would give him that jump he got everytime. i would have liked to see them wind out the rest of the gear.

im with aero, everyone has their own opinion but reality is blinded by self interest so zach thinking his viggen is faster then a stock sti is logical, he wants this to be true i say in every experiance i have seen or had a sti is faster, ask josh what he has raced and beat... all that said its relative to the car and driver

p.s. i would love to be able to say my car is faster then a sti and on another note i am an m3 fanboi lol

Actually, I don't think MY Viggen is faster than a Subaru Justy... So how about you stop putting words in my mouth... My car has not ran right for almost the entire time owning the car.

HOWEVER, a Viggen in good running condition will walk on the STi from a roll as I have seen before... But once again, that was just a figment of my imagination, right Damir?

Also, if you want to bring Josh's car into the equation, have you ever driven it? It is in worse condition than my car, and mine is pretty bad. The clutch is completely shot and the boost is hardly there in his Viggen. My friends stock 9-3 2.0 with a 3" dp was way faster than Josh's car... Anyone who has driven a stock Viggen in good condition, and has driven Josh's Viggen, knows how poor it performs (not jabbing at you Josh, just saying that it's not even fair to use your car as an example).

Get your shit straight Damir...

I really don't care what people believe, but use some valid information before you start comaparing cars with issues... I don't really care if a race turns out in the other cars favor, but anyone saying it's going to lose is just as likely to be wrong as the people saying it's going to win. You don't know until you see it happen.

Also, we do need video...

I am going to talk about from a roll....

Trap speeds are the best indicators of how fast a car is from a roll. STI's bone stock traps in to the low 100's. Viggen's, the high 90's, ONE or TWO times I have heard of them cracking 100mph but never saw the slip. But I have seen 98-99mph fairly often.

So yeah, an STi is a faster car.

BUT in a street race the faster car does not always win. And if it comes down to a 1-3mph trap speed difference either car can come out on top in such a non-controlled enviroment.

But 9x out of 10 I would put my money on a stock STi being faster than a stock Viggen.

While I agree with you, I think the ~2 second 1/4 differential can more than make up for 1-3mph in trap speed. What I mean by this is that at the 1/8th mile the STi is already at 80-83mph, while what I remember of Viggen slips(couldn't easily find one to compare right now) I have seen are around 70-73mph. That means they make up 8-10mph in the last 1/8th mile, in 3rd and 4th. The huge difference in the launch capablities can more than make up for such a small difference in traps. Both cars take just under 5 seconds to complete the final 1/8th mile, but one with a ~10mph difference in 'roll speed'.

There is no need to talk about the nearly 2 sec discrepency, from a roll both vehicles are traveling at say 50mph before the 3 honks go off. So all you are left with is how cars run from say 50-100mph, or 50-130 which is how most of my races have been. In that scenaro I find the Viggen to be a great equalizer and has fared very well with cars that run high 12's and low 13's. When I was stock I took down a B5 S4, a B6 S4, and an SLK350 all from 50-100mph. Each of these cars would have been substantially faster from 0-1320.

Im gonna go ahead and say, my 96 9k aero, with kn intake, and 3inch turboback exhaust pulled on a stock sti on the freeway. starting at maybe around 60? witness = Tikka. He was driving. I was watching form SPG.

I couldn't see any brake boosting, but i think its funny how the STi hits the brakes right after he passes the vig. especially on that 3rd gear pull... I wanna see what happens when the Vig is at the end of 4h gear.

I know.

Everyone thinks I am kidding.

Oh well.

I still wanna see a stock for stock race between vig/sti from 20 to about 120 or so...

Also, the subie guys around here drive like a bunch of pussies.
