Well not everyone can find some sub 40K mile Saab vert to detail....

So whats your cars imperfections? Decals, Rust, Cracks, Broken Plastic, etc... Whats stopping you from fixing them?

I'll post my cars imperfections first (As soon as photobucket finishes uploading my pictures:evil::evil:)

Well my biggest imperfection is all the scratches along the side of my car from last winter when I got rid of all the snow on my car. I guess I just went too hard and scratched it up. They aren't deep scratches, so I just plan on getting some scratch fixer and touch up paint. Also on the exterior, my the little panel in the back door is missing. I'm probably just going to go to a local junkyard and pick one up.

As for the interior - my driver's seat was ripping on the top part - just sewed it up myself - now the bottoms ripping - probably just going to sew up again.

Rock chips on the hood.

Paint chipped at the tops of three of the four doors from where the old owner had a roof rack.

Rear right quarter panel looks like it was keyed at some point.

Dent on the front right quarter panel where someguy had a fender bender.

I applied some paint with a toothpick to some of the deeper gashes, I was the car weekly and wax every so often, but in reality I like that my car has character.

I also applied Forever black to most of the trim.

The paint is wearing off the front bumper (or something... it's turning silver), it is also all kinds of scratched.
Panel alignment throughout the front end is... unique.
Headlights are pretty sandblasted, left corner light is getting cloudy.
The hood is covered in stone chips and looks like someone sat on the middle. And the badge is peeling.
The left fender is missing pinstripe.
Drivers door has a dent in the front and rust in the back and bottom.
Roof has a dent in front of the sunroof.
RR door has a pretty deep scratch.
RR plastic side skirt has a dent.
Rust is making its appearance in front of both rear wheel wells.
Hatch has a small dent on the left side.
Rear bumper is scratched to hell.

I'd say that pretty much covers the worst of it.

What am I doing about it? Probably not much.

Actually you want to use the forever black on the moldings and door handles that are turning gray from the sun. The wax residue will probably just make the forever black not go on right.

I've had to use cloths to get rid of the residue in the past, also a Mr. Clean magic eraser works well.

I took an afternoon and applied it to every black part of the car save for the paint and the spoiler a few weeks ago. It looks good and is holding up well.

I used to have to apply once a year to the door handles on my 2003 SS.

well... where to start..

the car was perfect other than some light scratches and such when i got it. since owning it it has been keyed on the front passenger door, the hood had some box dragged across it scratching all to hell, a bit of rust showed up on the seam where the rear panel meets the wheel well, another spot on the passenger side of the A pillar, the rear bumper and decor panel are not cracked punctured and pushed forward (due to being rear ended), the tally lip and my fog lights are f'ed because of some creature the booked it in front of me on the road the other day and finally there is some crap left from some stupid emblem placed on the right rear of the car. oh yeah and both front and rear emblems are now gone. front went with the old hood as the box ripped it off and new hood didnt have one and the rear was gone after getting rear ended...

items that have been fixed:
1. fixed the hood by replacing it.

2. the front lip and fogs will be fixed thanks to Allstate

pending repairs
1. the scratches keyed spot and rust will all be repaired once i have the moolah saved to get a proper full respray. till then POR 15 and rustoleum...

2. the rear bumper and decor panel is pending the jackhole that hit me's insurance getting their head out of their a** and admitting that a 2002 F-350 Super Duty meeting the back end of a 900 doing 55 while it is doing 70+ will cause more than $600 in damage. so far they refuse to accept liability and won't authorize more than $600 in repairs (their shop estimates at least $1,300).

3. Emblems are just too damn expensive. once i can afford respray i can afford new emblems

umm... yeah that is all... other than that everything is mint. hell i even have both mid body mud flaps still...

Commem
1..Stone chip on the hood that I've repainted, wet sanded, buffed. If you don't know where it is, and you're not a professional automotive painter/body man, you'd be hard pressed to find it.

SE Vert.
1. Stone chip received Tuesday on the way to the office right on the leading edge of the hood (Grrrrrr!). Hit hard enough to ring the hood like a bell, dent the leading edge. Not fixed yet.
2. A-pillar trim pulling away from the windsheild frame
3. SPG welting rotting and needs to be replaced.

9-5 Aero
More stone chips, door dings than I can count. Needs the entire hood and facia repainted. Not happening soon.

GTO
Usual road rash on the hood, but NOTHING like the 9-5. Just enough to be annoying, and still fixable.

9-7X Aero
Second windsheild crack within a month. hood chip, fixable.

Front end: stone chips.

Roof was burnt pretty badly by a drunken idiot with a flaming can of aerosol brake cleaner (fear not, fortunately this prick no longer frequents the scene). The insurance company wouldn't repair it unless I pressed charges, which I didn't have the energy to do.

Bumper: looks like Godzilla tried to assrape my car.

-Numerous door dings/cart scratches from previous owners
-Broken Foglight (have replacement, but just lazy for now)
-Wingless grille (like said above, it does, infact, make baby jesus cry)
-Crunched hood and fender (thanks to Mr. Deer and his 4 point rack)
-Slightly mismatched rattle can primer/paint on hatch and rear passenger wheel arch to cover missing paint/rust
-Headlights misaligned (bent hood must have hit pass. headlight when closed hard at the shop)
-Bad bumper patch job on rear bumper from previous owner.

--edit.. oh yeah, and the shop stole my engine cover, as when i got it back its MIA.

Hey, low blow! My car was NOT in the condition it is in now. Its been keyed, it had all the scratches and paint chips that accompany a 13 year old car, and it took me 2 years to complete.

Things to do:

-Bring my repainted front bumper back to the morons at the body shop. I was polishing it a few days ago and got under it and saw that there were areas that had no paint on it at all!

-Pop out all the ridiculous little dings in the doors, these cars seem to dent really easily (thin body panels?)

You should've attacked back. It's still 1:0 for sleepy.

About my viggen:

- the rust spot under the spoiler that is common to many blue viggens.
- driver's seat: fat former owner destroyed it. I need the bottom piece and maybe i'll redo the leather on the seat.
- door dings: if i see there is a slight chance hitting with a door car standing next to me, i'm able to get out through the window to not get any scratches. i wish former owner did the same ;O
- whenever i open the trunk after the rain, i have to open it slowly and carefully so the water won't split on the hatch speakers.

Forever black (a trim dye) fixed this up pretty well for me. Still have the cracks, but it looks better on the cheap.

Better yet, peel that off, make it body color. I did on mine when I had it:

take a heat gun (blow dryer on stearoids -- it WILL BURN paint, if you're not carefull and put it too close to the surface) and slowly peal it off. Follow up with a quality body sticker glue removal solvent. Body shop suppliers have the stuff. Comes out looking something like this.

RUST.
both lower corners of the hatch and front of both rear wheel wells. i'd post pictures, but the torrential rain is only exacerbating the problem.

removed the rear window wiper. still have the screw sticking up with the washer on it.

stone chips.

cloudy red paint.

peeling door trim on the pillars.

cracked passenger side mirror reattached with glue.

plastic trim in all different shades of grey.

this cosmetic stuff is the least of my worries at the moment, unfortunately. i do hope to get around to fixing some of it though. on the cheap!

So I'm doing a full paint job, replacement of front passenger door and hood replacement.

I'm done trying to fix issues. Its beyond a fix. It needs a paint job.

I need to find cheap OEM Black paint now. Anyone got any? :D

I figure next fall is the ETA of the paint job. Storing the car for 3 months til Ice Race time... :D

Hmmm, I think I need a repaint too...*

Have you thought about a Maaco job?

Rear wiper and front light head light wiper stopped working rear wiper is completely loose and just rests on the spoiler so I'm probably going to remove it and the connected motor this weekend. Front headlight wipers + motors will go next. Need to paint antenna plug. Fixed the randomly broken turn signal housing this week. Need to also remove instrument cluster and install a new bulb, probably going to get around to this when i start installing gauges. Needs to be detailed badly, maybe when i get the summer wheels and tires next weekend.

As for the crashed saab it needs bumper reattached, new headlight, turn signals, rear brake light, seat is busting at one of the seams, burn in the back of the passenger seat from a drop light, but at least I got the wheels point in the same direction now
