It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you love curves...get a Ducati.....straight line accelleration then look at the R1 or CBR-1000.

I'd go with a Ducati personally....

I am a chicken on the bikes so all out power isn't the concern. I am worried a ducati would be to agressive for street riding?? Never been on one & my Buell is my first sportbike.

I do hope to take whatever I get to a roadcoarse one of these days, I wanted to take the Buell but no time this year.

What's the point then? All the liter bikes are stupid ridiculous for the street. I've been riding my fiance's '08 CBR600 the last few weeks while I'm getting a new chain/sprockets for my SV650 (the perfect street bike imo) - and what a pointless waste of potential. It's like riding a rocket powered razor blade around, uncomfortable and can break the highest speed limit MN has in first gear, and lose your license if you top out second... Can't wait for my new chain!

That said, if I was going to look at liter bikes right now the new BMW would be top of my list...

I hope you do as well - so much fun to actually unleash the potential of these bikes. Although if you get a liter bike don't go up into the faster run groups because it will be demoralizing to get lapped twice in a session by a guy with 65hp

*My situation is different than most riders though so my opinion is a little different - I commute on a bike ~7k miles / year, don't go in search of twisties and get all the "fun" out on the track as my fiance and I both race SV650's.

 

SV650 or Ducati Monster or Triumph Street Triple. If I were to buy a great, modern street bike; one that's livable, yet trackable, those are what I would pick.

If i had the money it would be the ducati 1098 all the way, but maint is expensive. I just recently got rid of my cbr1000, i loved that bike. the r1 and cbr1000 are by no means straight line bikes, they will hold there own in the twisties. If you put ohlins susp on them like the ducati they would compare almost evenly through the corners for a street rider, and still cost less money.

I do not think the r1 is a comfortable bike to ride at all compared to the cbr... just my 2 cents

 

I used to borrow a friend's Ducati Monster 620 dark and own my buddies on their R1's and CBR1000's on the twisty mountain roads....

Then again I used to do the same on my BMW R100RT as well. I put close to 70k on that bike in two years.

Back on topic though...if you are looking for a great bike around town, that will also be a blast on the road coarse, you owe it to yourself to look at a Ducati Monster 796. You could even move up to the 1100 if you wanted more power. They very comfortable around town - easy to manuver. Great on 2 hour rides...and a blast on a track. I took a buddies on the Nurburgring and did about 5 laps with it - there was plenty of power to get in trouble with and the handling was top notch.

 

I'd go with a monster 1100 instead of the 1098. Essentially the same motor on a naked bike. that thing goes like hell.

Have you looked into the triumphs lately?? speed triple 1050 is pure sex. Single swing arm and that raspy inline 3!! I'm actually looking into the street triple R myself. Puts down like 92hp at the wheel, handles and looks great. I think it's probably the best all around street bike aside from the sv that I have now.

 

I read a comparison earlier today the CBR1000 beat the 1198s around some roadcoarse.... forget which track or by how much time but it wasn't by much. They also said the CBR was the most comfortable....... If I recall the CBR beat the BMW as well..... I do love some of the technology on the BMW but it would be close to $16K or $6K more then I am willing to do. LOVE to have ABS & if available traction controll on a bike.

With me being a chicken I am just taking my time learning the bike before I push the thing, no need being a client at my own funeral home!! It's also about impossible to use the 150hp my buell has around town & I just haven't had time to take any backroad trips.

So my delima is sell my 1125cr for $6500 ish & put it something different

or

keep it, spend & $1500 on a extended 7yr warrante & another $1,000 ish on a new exhaust & ECU to add 15-20HP & also add the touring/riser handlebars.

THEREFORE: Find one you like and suits your clothes (i'm not joking), makes you look cool, shows off your gf's thong when she's riding with you and just enjoy it. Remember that if you get the 1900cc super-duper-extra-amazing-fast-e'fin bike, probably you'll never be able to go over 90mph.

Sounds like you're a little undecided (touring bars on 1125R?), and you're right about not wanting to be a client in your own funeral home. You have a great touring bike in that ultra. To compliment that you want something sportier (faster), then throw a leg over the Yamaha FJR or the Kawi Concours.

The big 4 Japanese 600's are incredible, prolly more than you need, and too tempting on the street. They make great track bikes but are not all that comfortable. I've seen a few friends go to the track under peer pressure and either get humiliated or hurt, but that's up to you. Do it for you if that's what you want. It can be a lot of fun. I'd recommend a racing skills school class first. Like Mid Ohio in Lexington.

Maybe wait 'til after the wedding and see if priorities shift a little. Keep the Buell, it's the best bike they built before going under and for 6500 you're taking a pretty big hit. Just keep riding somewhat sensibly- it's not an extreme sport to be displayed on the street. And watch out for the other guy. Good Luck.

Actually $6500 I would be breaking even or throwing a little extra money in my pocket which is why I snagged it last fall. The other half is all for me getting a different bike but yea, since july 31 is almost here I will have to do some more searching when we get back.

Here's the deal.... I will be 40 soon & I just wonder how much longer I would be able to deal with the beating of a bike like a 1098 or 1198. So I keep thinking maybe for my 40th b-day I should try to find one of those...... then do what was suggested & do the Mid-OH school which I have always heard excellent things about.

I think they actually call the bars clubman or something like that. Raises the bars I beleive 1 in & .5 in back, suppose to be much more comfortable & they came stock on the 2010's but my 09 has the older bars. But then I go back to is it worth dumping money into it or should I just buy something else that doesn't need to be modded & is reliable.

 

check out a triumph Sprint ST/RS. they are called a "gentle-mens" sport bike because there stupidly comfortable,, and have a 1050cc triple in them.
personally im not a fan of the styleing, but they are a great bike

there is also the speed triple,, Bikes and women are alike in that both are better naked

i have nothing against the big 4 Japanese bikes, they are all great, But do you really like seeing yourself coming from the other direction? everybody and there mom has one. the popularity of them has really taken away from there personallity

SV650 is a good bike, very cheap and also comes in a 1000cc version.

That Buell is the R version, mine doesn't have the fairing, looks more like a superduke

The more I think about it..... the more I think I will ride mine for the rest of the season & see how it goes. Maybe sell it this fall or hold onto it until next year.

I think I would like a bike with stability control & also ABS & they are just a tad out of my price range at this time. I am not big on the looks of the BMW but I like the stability control it has so maybe next year that could be in my price range or something else. I need to go to the local Ducati store to see if the 1198 feels comfortable at all just to sit on.

 

although those electronics are all well and good,, i feel like a motorcycle is suposed to be an icredably simple, and pure driving machine, void of all those driver compensating add ons.

 

I agree.... just like a car!! However I feel that it would allow me to safely push a bike & learn how to push it at a track. They can be turned off so if I would feel like I could push it w/o the electronic aid turning it off would be easy.

But, if I would plop down my money for say a ducati 1198 or the 180 whp BMW having that extra bit of safety to help me learn it I am all for. I believe both bikes do 9.6 to 9.8 sec 1/4 mi times at 140+ mph bone stock, that's a LOT of power to learn to controll

The street and speed triples are beautiful bikes and I have heard great things about both of them.

The truimph 675 is prob one of the most nimble sportbikes i have ever ridden. Its power delevery is differnt than most 600 too but thats prob because its a triple.
It is also a damn sexy bike!

 

I have had a couple buells, a Honda 600RR and sold all them to pickup the 848 Ducati. It is the best all around bike so far. Fun around town and bearable on an all day ride. Power is there but not so much you are afraid to crack the throttle. Going to need new tires soon. Ride it not enough but its usually a long trip when I do. If you get down this way bring your riding gear. Some good roads, not the Gap but close enough for my guts.

 

I just can't decide what to do. I am going to throw the Buell up f/s this next week I think & the more I think about it the more I do not need to motorcycles. So I think I will throw the money in the bank & save up to buy a car....... I keep telling myself I do need to cars & I am 90% sure that I know the car I want......

However there is a 1198 f/s a hr or so away that I was thinking of going to check out & since my Buell has more then enough power for me I think the 1198 would be to much. I would think the 848 would also be more then enough, there just aren't any around here f/s used.

 

Since you've decided to sell the Buell, put it out there and see if you can get the price you want. If yes...great!! If no, maybe hold on it a bit longer.
There's no hurry for another bike is there? You've got your HD to ride if you get the urge. Eventually the right cost/deal?!?/bike/time will likely jump up screaming at you.
Definately buy with how/where you'll do the bike's service in mind.
