Big clouds of white smoke for me meant turbo bearing failure. But it didn't stop, it just got worse.

This almost sounds like some coolant was spilled inside the exhaust or something nutty like that. It has stopped though?

Did the car have a ton more milage than you remember when you picked it up?

 

You didnt mention putting the 3.5 FPR in. Also often when resetting the ecu my car can hunt for idle and it will stall a couple of times when coming to a stop.

Just checking. There is a stage 3 guy here who went to the track and the car ran worse than stock....one of the reasons was he never put in the 3.5 FPR.

Like I said, the stalling seems pretty normal after immediatly disconnecting the battery. The white smoke, I am not so sure of. But then again, I was worried about white smoke when I saw this coming from my car...

Weird shit always comes out of brand new exhaust pieces (and it smells like shit)...I wouldn't be too worried. As long as its running strong and you're not getting any smoke, no worries.

 

I also hope you got a custom boost gauge. The stock one isnt good for much information.

 

If there was some weird coating on the inside of the pipes, it may have all burnt off. How's the car doing since the smoke stopped?

 

now that i have had it running for a few days it has been amazing. no more smoke and no trouble starting. you're right.. whatever it was that was making the smoke it burnt out. i do need a boost guage. where can i get a good one and a mount.. i heard something about a phantom is it any good?

 

The A pillar pod that fits best is by Speedparts and is on the Genuinesaab site. I LOVE my autometer sport comp gauge, the green light matches the stock cluster well and I have a carbon fiber face which matches the stock door pulls.

sorry, I don't have them anymore. they were completely rusted out from the inside out. they showed me the flex pipe and it was gone too. they said water must have gotten in it somehow.

yeah definately worth it! i have gotten pulled over twice since i've had it. hahaha. got out of one of the tickets. the other was for 25 over on route 3, no luck there.

 

An FPR is a Fuel Pressure Regulator. The 3.5 refers to 3.5 BAR. BAR is a pressure measurement. 1bar=14.7 psi.

You don't need one if are not running software. Unless you upgrade, you don't need one.

 

jdinneen tuning was definately worth it. i am thinking about getting a 97-98 and doing sqr on that. you'll have to let me know how it works out for you. i have the nordic from gs.com.

yeah it is mostly a town of old people. nice little town and all, which means nothing to do 'round these parts. that's how i put so many miles on my cars. i do about 45k+ a year going other places. boston isn't that far away. we don't really have any towns here, just manchester and nashua. and we do not go to nashua. haha
