So You all heard I killed the first gearbox in my viggen. Might have been abuse but sure was fun. :) Will have to take it apart to see what happened but you can look IN and see the pinion gear, I am pretty sure that third gear snap-ring is gone too. :rolleyes:

Anyway for now we installed a new factory gearbox and while it was out I lightened the flywheel a couple pounds, not tons but a little. Also pulled the balance shat chain out. Not sure I can live with this part of it. More on that later.

Interestingly now it does not have the gearbox sound you could hear over the HVAC. More pics here http://genuinesaab.com/gallery/VigTrans

nice work nick. sad sight, but then i realize that you must beat the hell outta that vig around the track and wherever you go. i remember talking on the phone to you one day and heard tire noise, you said that with cold drag radials it would just spin em through 3rd or something like that....crazy

I see the new engine mount on there!

Any why not tell us about the turbo install and such. No need for secrets man. I've asked before too about comparing that to the 18T but you won't spill. Its not like you're going to loose profit or anything by telling us, just help us out.

Actually I have posted already about the turbo install, there are tons of pictures in the gallery.. Here is the difference between the turbos with same software.. 18t 6cm from GIK in Sweden and GT2871R .64 same soft and everything. This is where we were starting to run out of injectors though. It made about 330whp when we got some more fuel to it.

The turbo dropped right on once I modified the compressor inlet. I originally tried a smaller inlet and stock amm hose.. You can see that those are no longer on it. ;) The next setup is to mount it up top like my -95

This car has the little Gt28RS .64 right now. Not quite pretty yet, still a little rigged. Missing heat shields etc. Runs great and even though it is a compromise manifold the compressor inlet is near perfect and is better than restricting compressor inlet. Should be a $400 or less manifold. :) The best part is that it will allow a unmolested turbo to be used.

Nick, any way a person could concevibly use that manifold on a 9000 without the air conditioning compressor in the way, and have the downpipe running in a similar fashion...off to the left side like that?

I'd be willing to test one on either of my 9000s...hell, I'd even lend you my '91 to test stuff on ;-)

All are wheel power. Run41 is the best we could safely manage with the 18t after many runs *without* silly exh temps. I did make more with some softwares but it was not good power. On the AF, run 41 had no wideband into the dyno just the one on the dash, the other is at the tailpipe.

When we put the GT28 on it leaned it out a bit maybe 13.5 nearer the limiter till knock control would take over when we get it warm. Once we richened it up it made lots more and I also switched out the airbox to open kit to get even more.

Thanks for the info, can you tell I'm intensely undecided between those two snails??

Also, neat to hear you were over in Sweden for this install, prolly can pick up some tricks over there!

I have not seen inside the case yet but I am not convinced an LSD would have helped. This is probably an issues of far too much torque. Probably helped along with a silly unsprung clutch from SE that I ran for a while. early on, it was noisy since then ;)

Then there is the whole part about the driver, might have been driven hard. But its a Viggen and it likes it.

This is interesting...

On one hand I would say that the LSD might help to strengthen the tranny, and actually smooth out the power delivery because the wheels would not be spinning like crazy.

On the other hand, I feel as if the LSD would have not let the wheels spin, and put all of that force into the axle or other bits of the tranny, and actually cause the break.

Thoughts?

Any others have experience with this? (before I spend $$$ to have a LSD installed)

Nah, I want to keep it pretty. They seem to salt the roads here whenever its anywhere near freezing, precip or not. That and I've got another box of goodies coming sometime soon. I also have a 9000 gearbox...something that doesn't take to well to massive wheelspin...as shown by this thread (with Viggens).

As for Nick's delivery pipe, its a very well thought out design. There are little touches such as barbs on the bpv fitting that the stock piece just doesnt have. His price was also hard to beat...$250 for the 9k one with BOTH of the hoses shown in the pic (not cheap if you buy them seperate) and ss clamps.
