As most people already know - I no longer own my blue Viggen. I tend to keep my new toys for no more than one year and the time has come for it. For a replacement I sought something that would handle better, was more efficient and had a better look.
Few months ago my friend was looking for a new car and I was trying to help him, since he was my height. From all choices I found Pontiac GTO the most suitable car for him. Yet, he fell in love with an S4 (which has less head room though) but I still remained with something that was pulling me to the GTO. I narrowed my choice between 350z (lack of rear seats), G35 (too small), EVO (too pricy+insurance would kill me), e46 m3 (same as evo) and GTO.
I did more research:
it had twice more cylinders, twice more horsepower and almost three times bigger engine (2.3x3=6.9~6L). It also had a lot of headroom and two extra seats in the back. All in all it had everything I needed in a car.
Year with a Viggen passed by and I started looking for a GTO, same time trying to sell the LB. I was lucky because I found a buyer for my Viggen in a same time as I found a perfect GTO for me.
Silver 2005 36k miles LS2 M6 with $7000 worth of modifications for $15.000. I call this guy and comes out the car is in excellent shape and was maintained like a relic. The only thing was that the car was located in North Carolina. I call this guy again, set the price at $14. He agrees and me and my dad decide to fly there and drive it back to Boston.
This is what I brought from Charlotte:
Now, I know the front splitter looks silly. When I first saw it on pictures the first thing that came to my mind was that this will be the first delete mod I will do to this car. Although during the drive from North Carolina, surprisingly I received about 5 thumbs up from random people on a highway or on a sidewalk in Washington. I'll keep it for a while until I find a nice Monaro VX/VZ front though.
It has 19" AZA Z01 wheels.
Now, somebody is gonna chime that this is so heavy that all the HP mean nothing. Apparently previous owner did few weight reduction mods :O He removed the carpet from the trunk (It takes about 1/2 space of what the trunk is capable of anyway), he replaced seats with Sparco ones, bought those wheels which apparently are not as heavy as they look. He even replaced the battery to the sport one (60lbs reduced). According to him, this GTO now weighs something around 3650 lbs.
It has adjustable shocks (with the softest setting the tires rub :O ) and lowering springs. Also came with custom intake and the entire exhaust with headers plus some more goodies.
I have no regrets selling my Viggen. It had a better gas mileage, but I don't drive a lot and MPG ratio doesn't mean much to me. Also, there are no creaks and trunk type of noises except for the exhaust one, but this one is a music for my ears
Video of this to come soon.
