As most people already know - I no longer own my blue Viggen. I tend to keep my new toys for no more than one year and the time has come for it. For a replacement I sought something that would handle better, was more efficient and had a better look.

Few months ago my friend was looking for a new car and I was trying to help him, since he was my height. From all choices I found Pontiac GTO the most suitable car for him. Yet, he fell in love with an S4 (which has less head room though) but I still remained with something that was pulling me to the GTO. I narrowed my choice between 350z (lack of rear seats), G35 (too small), EVO (too pricy+insurance would kill me), e46 m3 (same as evo) and GTO.

I did more research:
it had twice more cylinders, twice more horsepower and almost three times bigger engine (2.3x3=6.9~6L). It also had a lot of headroom and two extra seats in the back. All in all it had everything I needed in a car.

Year with a Viggen passed by and I started looking for a GTO, same time trying to sell the LB. I was lucky because I found a buyer for my Viggen in a same time as I found a perfect GTO for me.

Silver 2005 36k miles LS2 M6 with $7000 worth of modifications for $15.000. I call this guy and comes out the car is in excellent shape and was maintained like a relic. The only thing was that the car was located in North Carolina. I call this guy again, set the price at $14. He agrees and me and my dad decide to fly there and drive it back to Boston.

This is what I brought from Charlotte:

Now, I know the front splitter looks silly. When I first saw it on pictures the first thing that came to my mind was that this will be the first delete mod I will do to this car. Although during the drive from North Carolina, surprisingly I received about 5 thumbs up from random people on a highway or on a sidewalk in Washington. I'll keep it for a while until I find a nice Monaro VX/VZ front though.

It has 19" AZA Z01 wheels.

Now, somebody is gonna chime that this is so heavy that all the HP mean nothing. Apparently previous owner did few weight reduction mods :O He removed the carpet from the trunk (It takes about 1/2 space of what the trunk is capable of anyway), he replaced seats with Sparco ones, bought those wheels which apparently are not as heavy as they look. He even replaced the battery to the sport one (60lbs reduced). According to him, this GTO now weighs something around 3650 lbs.

370rwhp

It has adjustable shocks (with the softest setting the tires rub :O ) and lowering springs. Also came with custom intake and the entire exhaust with headers plus some more goodies.

I have no regrets selling my Viggen. It had a better gas mileage, but I don't drive a lot and MPG ratio doesn't mean much to me. Also, there are no creaks and trunk type of noises except for the exhaust one, but this one is a music for my ears :D Video of this to come soon.

Thanks guys. After driving it for a little bit today, I can honestly say that I love this car. It has everything it should have (oh well I can always get the aux for mp3 ;p). I went to see some of my friends and on my way I raced one of them (here we go) and his S4 and while Viggen took it by almost one length 3 weeks ago, the GTO smacked it by about 2 buses.

We get to my friend's house and since he didn't know what car I got (he was guessing m3 or g35) he wanted to race me too ! He has a 350z with a gt35r. I knew my car will be smashed by his Z, considering he just went up with an open wastegate and almost 10 psi's. On a highway I got up by 2 lengths and when his turbo started spooling up, I switched to 4th and I think we were going even. My GTO is not as highly modified as his Z and I'm truly surprised how fast my car is. I still need to take care of that splitter because instead of helping with aerodynamics it totally destroys the drive (Monaro bumper, where are you?!)

Next week: two other friends want to meet up for a photo shoot (e46 m3+evo9) so more stories to come :D

Anyway, this car gets so many looks. When we just went for a ride downtown Boston I heard 'nice ride dude' twice from random people.

I also think I have convinced my other friend to buy one too :)

Oh and about the wheels - they are freaking expensive. I might get some lighter 18's though. I like the look of it though. I think it really fits with this low stance. Tires don't enjoy it though. I still have to adjust the shocks to somewhat harder since rubbing is still present at times.

Thanks for the PM the other day :) It was very tough to get it for 14k. I went for a test drive around Boston and there were only 2 or 3 GTO's around. The one I drove was listed at 21k with more miles than this one. There aren't many of those cars around here and the best I could find was something between 15k and 18k with higher miles and 6/10 general condition. I kept looking and on one of the GTO forums this guy lists his car for 16k. He is very accurate so he listed all the flaws (micro nickles on the wheels, micro chips on the hood or that the car is after weight reduction - to me it is ridiculous because I think the car looks perfect). The very next day after his listing I was the first one to offer him something serious. He took the ad of and I basically had the deal in my hands.

Nice car Rafal, that is definately a big improvement over the LB. But what are you going to do about the pussy magnet?

Honestly, if Viggen was ever equipped with a pussy magnet, the GTO has probably 5 times more of them settled across the car. It does attract :)

Really, really nice car. Like others have said, the amount of car you get for $14k is hard to beat. We have to meet up so I can check it out. Most of the modifications done by the PO, minus the splitter, look right on the car. I like the wheels alot.

Good luck with it and nice choice. Call me in a couple months when we get our first couple inches of snow for a quick ride with rear wheel drive haha.

I love GTO's. Understated with a ton of power. Its up in the running for my next car, the one thing holding me back is im kind of drawn to 4 door cars... Good luck with her thoguh! Can I hear the whine of a maggie in the future?
