I know some of you here know Arte from the Albany, NY area (LIFETIMEOFSAABS). I just read his post on SN that some lowlife stole the glovebox door from his SiS vert with the SiS plate on it.

I hope it's nobody from this board, but someone here may be able to get some info and help Arte out. He's a dedicated Saab collector and a good guy and doesn't deserve being ripped of by some shit head.

Let's help him out.

From Saab net:

This is a message to the person who broke into my 1988 Saab Springtime in Sweden convertible and stole the glovebox door with the SiS badge on it.

1) You are obviously a Saab C900 enthusiast to have targeted such a specific piece of Saab memorabilia so I am pretty certain that you will read this message.
2) You are a low life.
3) You are on camera.

Here's the deal... I have several security cameras that captured you and your red F-150 pickup driving into my driveway. Your license plate is pretty clearly visible, as is the image of you and your friend opening up my car and spending all of about one minute in the car in what was obviously a pre-planned theft of this item.

In the spirt of extreme...and when I say extreme, I mean EXTREME kindness, if you return the glovebox panel and badge immediately and intact I will not pursue this incident further.

If I do not receive the piece back within one week, I will report this crime. As the value of the SiS with a badge versus without a badge is a several thousand dollar difference, that is a felony.

You know my address.

Perfect

Perfect!! Except, you are too kind. They should forced to perform public service in Trollhatten while wearing a "I steal Saab parts" T shirt.

Damn, what an asshole. I've been told by PDs in NY they can't look up a car with a partial plate when I was hit and they ran. Is there a SiS registry, like the ComEds have? Maybe this moron will put up an SiS on CL, or even better, have the nuts to show up with it at a show.

Sorry to hear this. Umm what saab morons thought they could steal something like that. Not sure why he's giving them a chance, but I presume going straight to the cops doesn't mean he'll get the glove box door back. I mean what's the face value for a glove box door?

Can't believe saab enthusiasts could go to this level ...

He didn't offer details and I didn't press him for them. I got the feeling I shouldn't ask.
Having met a LOT of saab people in a variety of different settings, I must say that on the whole, the Saab community (especially C900 & 9000 enthusiasts for some reason) tends to be a fricken weird, eccentric group with a touch of verbal diarrhea thrown in just for good measure. We talk, and talk, and talk, and talk. Talk about our cars, who we know, who we've met, who has worked on our cars, what we've done ourselves, where our cars have been......you name it.

Having met Arte, I can say that he's about as far from an eccentric weirdo jabbertrap as you can get. He's a cool, collective guy, and a real genuinely nice fella. Definitely not one to gloat, or share for the sake of sensationalism.

I'm sure he's just happy to have this unfortunate experience behind him. I hope we can all learn from his trial. I know that someone looking to swipe my SiS badge has better odds of finding Jimmy Hoffa.
