Star Wars... Hmmm...

I watched A New Hope the other day and I was wondering...

Where did Luke get the training to fly the X-Wing in perfect formation when he had no X-Wing training nor did he have any combat experience? I understand the Rebel Alliance needed anyone who could fly, but it seems rather odd that they would trust Luke with an X-Wing when he had no formal training with one.

Also, I wish the B-Wing had more screen time in Return of the Jedi. :(

luke was an expert pilot to begin with, remember he shot wombats in his T-16 on tatoine)
I'm guessing it flies similar to the X-Wing? I wish they would include a little bit of flight training with the X-Wing... nah, maybe not.

The only other thing that bothers me is how the computer systems look downgraded compared to Episodes I, II, III. I know the Empire sucked up all the funds for their own technology, but even the systems used by the Empire looked outdated (crt monitors ftl). What's the deal with that? Any word if Lucas is going to update the computer screens in the ships so they would look more, uh, new?

dude... they made the 4,5,6 like 30 years b4 they made the 1st one what do you expect.

and to answer your question all air craft of the future have a standard politing system that is the same for all moddles of things that fly. So if you know how to fly the t-16 you could fly any thing from a x wing to a star medical frigate. ;-)

plus.. he has the force man...

Well, I know that... obviously it will look outdated compared to Ep I, II, III. But despite the annoying changes Lucas keeps on making, changes for the computer screens would be something I would not complain about and would definitely support.

If you listen to the star wars radio drama (You can buy it on CD), it includes parts of the story that didn't make it into the movie. Contrary to popular belief, Lucas did not write the story for "A New Hope", he wrote the screenplay, based on the story. In the original story, Luke's character was actually a girl.

In any case, in the radio drama, Luke and his buddy (the name escapes me at the moment) were quite good pilots, flying the T-16's through the canyons etc.

Sad, that a trekkie like me knows so much about *gasp* star wars.

with everyones post combined, you have the right story

Luke and BIGGS DARKLIGHTER were buddies on tatooine, and they used to fly T-16 SKYHOPPERS in BEGAARS CANYON, as was mentioned.

supposedly, the t-16 and x wing are very similar in terms of flying, so luke was a natural.

Also, Anakin had no training and he managed to fly a naboo starfighter perfectly, its just something to do with the force, just how most humans couldnt podrace, anakin could.

I was a pretty big stars wars fan as a kid.
