So last Friday I was driving home from work. I have a 20 mile commute from Two Harbors to Duluth along HWY 61. The highway is a 4-lane divided highway, with a limit of 65mph.
As I was coming up to the divided highway part (61 narrows to a 2-lane road as it goes through town), I came up on this newish Mitsubishi Eclipse. He's doing 75-80ish in the left lane. I pull up along his right side, look over and smile. The guy driving it looks at me funny, says something to his girlfriend riding with him and laughs. She looks over at me as the guy nods, knowing whats going to go down.
So we take off from an 80mph start, I made a poor decision to downshift to 4th
which I very quickly redlined. And then had problems getting back to 5th (my reverse guard is broken, so there isn't anything from keeping the shifter from shooting over ALL the way towards reverse). Oh well, I finally caught up with him. We looked at each other, and we take off again.
We ended up playing with each other really, passing each other, etc. The times when we took it all out, he seemed to max out around 115, so I'd end up shooting by around 125.
At the end, when we came into town at Duluth, we both had big sh*t eating grins on our faces, gave each other thumbs up and headed our separate ways.
From what I saw, his car was spooling faster (I could hear it) so he'd get a lead, but I'd catch up to him and eventually pass him. Either due to a limiter on his car, or his lack of desire to go that fast. Oh well, in the end I think he was impressed that my car could keep up with his for the most part.
