So last Friday I was driving home from work. I have a 20 mile commute from Two Harbors to Duluth along HWY 61. The highway is a 4-lane divided highway, with a limit of 65mph.

As I was coming up to the divided highway part (61 narrows to a 2-lane road as it goes through town), I came up on this newish Mitsubishi Eclipse. He's doing 75-80ish in the left lane. I pull up along his right side, look over and smile. The guy driving it looks at me funny, says something to his girlfriend riding with him and laughs. She looks over at me as the guy nods, knowing whats going to go down.

So we take off from an 80mph start, I made a poor decision to downshift to 4th :( which I very quickly redlined. And then had problems getting back to 5th (my reverse guard is broken, so there isn't anything from keeping the shifter from shooting over ALL the way towards reverse). Oh well, I finally caught up with him. We looked at each other, and we take off again.

We ended up playing with each other really, passing each other, etc. The times when we took it all out, he seemed to max out around 115, so I'd end up shooting by around 125.

At the end, when we came into town at Duluth, we both had big sh*t eating grins on our faces, gave each other thumbs up and headed our separate ways.

From what I saw, his car was spooling faster (I could hear it) so he'd get a lead, but I'd catch up to him and eventually pass him. Either due to a limiter on his car, or his lack of desire to go that fast. Oh well, in the end I think he was impressed that my car could keep up with his for the most part.

I came up on this newish Mitsubishi Eclipse.
I think he was refering to a few model years ago with this comment, at least that was my take. The only two Eclipses turbo'd were the GSX (AWD) and the GST (FWD).

That was the 2Gb body style, the second generation on that platform, which did include the GSX and the GST, they were from 97-99. If it was a GSX or a GST it was spoolin!

P.S. I really dont know that much about Eclipses, but my roomate is a Eclipse guy :)

Man in school I would have given my left nut to have a GST Eclipse... That was the bomb in cars around where I was at.. (next to anything Honda). And if you were really lucky and your parents loved you you might of had a Galant Vr-4 or a 3000GT Vr-4.

On the side note..... the GSX was heavy as a mother!! and suffered from a seriously parasitic AWD system that robbed more power than it helped.

My parents must love me since I have a Galant vr4 :D

many many people turbo eclipses here. Most of them out here on our streets are turbo. We have a couple really quick ones in our car club... most of the eclipse tuners out here leave the body stock too.

I raced one the other day on HWY 16. 2nd gen that was turbo... it was very loud and slower then my car running stock ECU with a major exhaust leak from my flex pipe.

*edit.. the moral is that they dont have to be one of those two models to be turbo

haha I would be terrified to take a c900 up to 140mph. maybe when it was new, but the newest these cars are gonna be is 13 years old so I dont know if I would trust everything as much as when it left the factory.

yeah, I took my old red c900T (Natalie) up to about 140 several times.... it wasnt that sketchy and there was a giant piece of the frame missing due to rott.... thank god the control arm didnt snap going 140 and instead it snapped doing about 30.... lol....

thank god my dumb driving days are over lol.... I was so retarded come to think of it... ask DeLorean or PaulH about how bad Natalie's frame was lol....

yeah it was probably about 10x as bad as my 91 900, that car saw the pin on the speedo several times (140+) as did my notchback. if your car was topping out at 120 it probably had the #6 gearset, the early 900s had that, the later ones had the #7 wich is what my 91 had.

The pictures is the super body style 2nd gen eclipse. Some non-turbo GS's have that body style, so the body style does not categorize turbo and non turbo eclipses. 2nd gen GST/GSX cars actually have the same t25 turbo the 9k's have. 1st gen bar none are the best eclipses. 4g63 with the larger 14b turbo. Its common to see people using the 14b in their 2nd gens. I know quite a bit about DSM's. Crank walk was an issue in particularly in the '96 year eclipse from what ive read, but all in all a WAY over-hyped problem in DSM's.

I've never been able to get any of my c900's much past 110. The fastest I have driven in a car was in the 84 vert, I hit 115 after shooting the gap between a car I was passing and an oncomming car because I knew if I didn't pass this guy I would never get to go 115, haha. I wasn't drunk either.

Furthermore I do not trust a classic 900 speedo past 100.

My EMS has really low gearing. I doubt I've gone over 110 in it, but it might go as fast as 120-25. Speedo tops out at 85, which I hit before the end of fourth gear. haha.
