Description:

1999 9-5, 208K
Manual transmission, cosmic blue
Stage 2 "Aero ++"

I really already regret this, but the wife and baby needed a wagon that has a little more trunk space and comfortable ride, so this car has to go.

Up for sale is our daily driver, a 99 95 with 208K miles. Manual trans 9-5s don't grow on trees, and Cosmic Blue is a rare color, too! :th_MySaab900Like:

The car is low, tight and fast, sounds and looks nice. The low aggressive stance of the Eibach/Bilsteins and klingon wheels, combined with the sound of the Remus and open intake always gets looks and thumbs up wherever we take it. Speaking of, we drove this all over the northeast even into Canada, never let us down except for when the fuel pump died 1/4 mile from our house at 160K, after which we swapped the pump in our driveway and kept driving and driving and driving... Not bad!

The car began life as LPT but has had many items added/upgraded, including a swap to a TD-04/Aero turbo and tuned ECU to bring it to the level of a stage 2+ aero:

  • RARE original SAAB/OEM Remus catback exhaust added around 100K (very desirable, the one with SAAB on the tip and full catbacvk, not just muffler!)
  • obsidian black leather interior added
  • bilstein/eibach shocks/springs
  • TD-04 turbo and lines added near 160K
  • TD-04 cobra pipe
  • K&N/Taliaferro open intake
  • Aero clutch just done within 20K miles
  • custom "aero stage 2+" ECU (approx 260-270+ HP)
  • 3.5bar FPR (for ECU tune)
  • hyperboost bypass valve in silver
  • autometer boost guage in custom wrapped a-pillar
  • OEM SAAB rubber floor mats
  • OEM Saab grocery bag holder
  • Rare OEM rear decor panel
  • OEM Saab trunk spoiler
  • Rare OEM Saab mudflaps
  • 17" klingon wheels
  • chrome "turbo" license plate frames and griffin valve stem caps
  • OEM smoked side markers on fenders

We have done:

  • Aero clutch
  • headgasket
  • timing chain/guides cover resealed
  • oil pan dropped and cleaned
  • mulitple sensors replaced
  • t-stat done
  • CPS replaced
  • front axles rebuilt
  • oil line to oil cooler replaced
  • 02 sensor front replaced
  • throttle body just replaced
  • ABS computer rebuilt
  • a wheel hub was replaced
  • e-brake shoes/pads replaced
  • coolant bypass valve replaced
  • starter motor replaced
  • blend door repair on left side done
  • window roller replaced and window trims re-installed to prevent rattling (front)
  • headlamp wiper motors replaced
  • orange headlamp relay soldered inside (a more permanent fix to getting a used one)
  • fuel pump replaced
  • water pump replaced
  • silicone vac lines
  • fluids replaced (brake, trans, power steering)
  • services done at major intervals as specified by Saab
  • General Exclaim performance tires, fairly recent
  • Mobil 1 every 3500 - 5000 K
  • much MUCH much more I am sure I forgot some things.

I have lots of paperwork but not all, because I did lots of work on the car myself or with friends. Work not done by me was done by experience master Saab techs.

"Needs" (in quotes because most of these haven't stopped me from enjoying the car as-is.)

  • sway bar link on drivers side needs to be replaced (I have and will include a brand new part)
  • hose from turbo to IC has small crack, should be replaced
  • ACC needs repair on right side (possibly the blend door on the right)
  • ACC fan sometimes does not come on for a while (either controller in dash or fan brushes)
  • E-brake cable works but freezes up in winter below 30 degrees (water gets into broken rubber boots on cable end, replace cable)
  • broken foglight
  • sunroof jams when opening partway, looks like a piece could probably be superglued back into place?
  • there is a small rust patch started near the rear wheel wells (see photos)
  • leading edge of hood is chipped and has tiny rusty spots
  • paint on bumpers is rashed or peeling, overall paint on the car is definitely showing its age but it is one of those cars that still looks fantastic anyways from a few steps away.
  • SID is missing lots of pixels. Big shocker there on a car this old. ;) We have learned what the possible messages are and can figure it out so we didn't bother fixing it

I already found my wife a new car so this needs to go... otherwise I would be still driving this daily until 300K or whenever the wheels fell off, we really have enjoyed this car!

I want to see this go to a Saaber as it still has a lot of life left, just having done a ton of repair work, and the car has lots of rare parts. But be quick, a guy at my work wants to buy this and he knows nothing about Saabs, so ask any questions and let's get you driving this car!

**** I also have 4 9-3 (2002) turbo anniversary edition wheels with used hakka snows, a spare DI cassette, and a cargo snake that are up for grabs too for some extra $$$! I have to look but I might also have a nicer/cleaner/better pixels ACC unit, cleaner radio and some other goodies too ****

The A/C blows cool to cold on the drivers side. As listed, the right side and rear blows warm and there is an error code for right blend door, which leads me to belieive this is the problem. I fixed the left side, should have done both while I had I all taken apart.

Also as listed, the ACC blower fan does not always turn on right away. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes for it to come on. Most times it works, it is kind of random when it decides not to and for how long. This is either worn down brushes inside the fan itself (drop in a new or used fan) or it could be the controller unit. Before I had the baby, I just drove with the windows down until the fan switched on. ;) I am tough, the baby not so much.

If I was keeping it, I would do both since they are right next to each other under the plastic shroud at the base of the windshield, probably with used parts from Goldwing.

it has run great for me but keep in mind it still is a car with over 200000 miles, so that would be up to you.

I would like someone local to buy it if possible, and look at it.

I am trying to be very fair about the price and honest. The paint looks much nicer in photos and from a few feet away. it shows its age for 208K miles, and wouldn't want anyone to be disappointed.

It could use a thorough cleaning inside and out. I just don't have time to detail it with an infant in the house now! :winky: Hence why I have already done the lowballing for you!

How bad is the rust? Has it been up on a lift and looked at? I swear I saw this car in Vermont at the Harpoon Brewery a couple years ago.

The rusty spots on the hood are not that bad. The ones near the rear wheels are a little worse. here is a closer shot (sorry for the blur)

(also the photos I uploaded above are pretty massive pics so you can zoom in and get a look at details)

I noticed there is some corrosion on the underside where the spare tire well is also.

I don't think the car has been to Harpoon unless it was my wife at a bachelorette party of her friend in VT ;) I wish I went there!

The car has been on a lift many times (recently) at a master Saab tech's shop and he advised me to keep driving the crap out of it after all the work I had done. I just needed more room for this giant baby stroller, less stiff of a ride for baby...
