After 2 years of searching, I finally received my "new" Origional Saab Viggen Sport/Remus SS Exhaust last thursday from Mike (mg_dt). I think I got a decent deal on it ($300) since the Viggen specific Remus muffler (which is still available from Remus) alone is $550...and this came with the madrel bent SS piping as well with the deleted mid-silencer. At any rate, I was looking specifically for this exhaust for a long time as one I wanted to get, however Nick's exhaust test pretty much sold me on this as being the exhaust that I wanted for my car (http://www.trolltuner.com/archives/viggen/powertrain/index.html#000014). Just when I was about to give up and splurge on the Feretta, Mike came along with it for sale....thanks again Mike!!

The exhaust was in great condition, however the origional black paint was about 80% flaked off, so I stripped all the old paint off and then repainted that sucker with some VHT Black Ultra High Heat Temp paint/ceramic coating and the damn thing looked brand new when I was finished with it....below are some pics, include some of my rusted origional Viggen/Bosal exhaust. Have a look:

Hey all, just got finished curing the High Temp Ceramic Paint (10 min idle, 10 mins cool, 20 mins idle, 20 mins cool, 30 mins driving at operating temps). So to answer everyone:

That looks great!

How's the sound?

:)

What are you going to do with the old system?
The sound is the genuine/unique Remus note....to describe, it lets you know it there, but its not raspy, ricey, buzz or tinny...its a nice low growl. Its a sophistcated kinda sound, much like something you'd find on a Mercede's AMG model. As for the old system, I'm gonna keep it around just in case.

what size is it? 2.5 or 3?
The origional Saab Viggen Sport/Remus exhaust piping is 2 3/8 just the the factory exhaust...however if you read Nick's exhaust & back pressure write-ups you will see that his tests show this 2 3/8s system has superior to a 3" system for HP up to 340. The folks at Feritta communicated the same thing to me as their system is is only 2 1/2 (1/8" larger than the factory & Sport systems)...they said that 2 1/2" is superior on high HP streetable Saab (they said a full blown race motor, > 400hp, is another story.

Lookw good, but I think you need a larger rear sway bar!
Yeah, Yeah, all in due time....I'm actually still awaiting the actual spring rate numbers from all the major spring vendors (Eibach, Koni/Voland, H&R, etc) before I buy my swaybar (22, 23, 24, or 25mm). I'm a stickler when it comes to suspension and I want to ensure I proper harmony between the springs and the swaybars. I'm also looking into fab'ing up a Ground Control coilover set up so I can select my spring rates specifically, just need to find the time to come up with a setup....I had GC on my old SCCA DSP VW GTI autocrosser and the car handled like a dream once I got it properly set up.

Oh and for those interested, you can still build the Origional Genuine Saab Viggen Sport/Remus exhaust by purchacing the Genuine Saab Sport Exhaust (this is the non-Viggen/regular 9-3 setup which is still available, cheapest I've seen them new is $320)....from this system, you will keep the 2 3/8" exhaust piping w/o the center silencer and then you can sell the muffler. You then need to purchase the Remus Saab Viggen specific muffler ( http://www.remus.at:8080/php/index.php?cmd=cmdFrontendProducts&iProductMotor=91624)...every shop located in the US quoted me $550 for it. Bolt everything up and you're good to go....it'll cost ya just under $900 w/o shipping costs.

Where did you buy the paint? I got my used SaabSport in the mail last week, and the welds have a little surface rust, as does most of the piping.
Bought the paint at AutoZone, its the VHT Flat Black Ultra High Temp (1200-2000 degree) cermanic coating/paint. It took 3 cans @ $8 a can. Once painted and reinstalled, you need to cure the coating: idle for 10 mins, cool for 10 mins; idle for 20 mins, cool for 20 mins; normal driving for 30 mins and then you're good to go.

I had a remus on one of my old VWs and it sounded the best of any exhaust I have ever heard.

PLEASE POST A SOUND CLIP... I am very excited to see what this sounds like on your car.

Rumor has it that since the stock viggen piping is the same size as the sport exhaust, you can just remove the small mid-muffler, and get similar results if you already have a stock viggen system.

Any know if there is truth to this??

If I were to do it, I'd get the muffler from remus, use my stock tubing, and just cut out my mid-muffler.

Is there a difference in backpressure between the stock muffler and the Remus unit???

I agree 100%...Remus is just a sophisticated sound...its a beautiful note. Buddy of mine has a Remus on his VW and the two sound near identical. I will try to get a sounds clip, though it won't do it justice vs hearing it in person.

Yes, this is correct...they are both 2 3/8s (1/8 of an inch sort of 2.5"). The other difference is that the stock piping is Aluminized, where as the Saab Sport is SS. You can purchase the still available normal 9-3 Saab Sport Exaust to get the SS pipe and then sell the muffler that comes with it...then just buy the Remus muffler and it will bolt right up.

Yes, talking with Nick, the stock Bosal muffler just cannot stand up beyond a Stage I setup. Nick found the Saab Sport Viggem/Remus to be superior to the JT 3". Check out his webpage with info on the exhaust tests he did

FYI - The last Saab Sport Exhaust in the country was sold last week to the Sales guy at my work - so unless there are ppl who bought them new and still have them in box's somewhere - no new ones are even available anymore. These systems are now a rare item and will be worth more on e-bay. Mind you my dad only Paid $187 shipped for a new Saab Sport system with the $100 Tip on it already.

I want the remus muffler myself, I am not sure if I could constitute spending 500 for a muffler tho.

Even if was gonna pony up that much, I cannot navigate the remus site for crap. They need an American affiliate site in english so I can order the muffler over the phone and talk with someone who speaks english while not paying mad loot for shipping from those eurocentric bastids.:D
