I decided to put an oil pressure gauge in the motor I am building for the 9-5. I figured now is the easy time to do it!!

I poked around a bit on the net and found Nahums guide but with no pictures. His guide is very comprehensive, but lacks pictures. So I thought I'd take a few, and post them her for anybody to see, and perhaps he might want to add them into his guide.

These are shots of an electric oil pressure gauge in a b204/b234 block.

The kit I used did come with a M14x1.5 adapter, and I ended up putting thread sealant on it even though the instructions told me not to. I did verify that it does have a good ground (gauge grounds to the electrical system through the fitting).

This particular gauge (iequus form O'reily) has an extra terminal on the sender that is supposed to operate the dummy light on the dash. Cool, huh!?! I will post back if it actually works (the dummy light).

On to the pictures!

I started about 3 weeks ago. The motor has been in my possesion for about 3 months, but just now getting to it. I've a self imposed deadline of next weekend since I have had this broken 9-5 in my driveway for more than a year now. I getting worn out, the 9-5 is kicking this old mans trash!

Nice.

As an aside, for those of you people using an Autometer gauge, you need to pick up an M14x1.5 adapter. It's nice that kit came with one.

Summit sells them, and in my neck of the woods they are hard to find.
The autometer kits have a 1/2 NPT adapter I believe. It might feel like it will work in a M14 threaded hole. I have another autometer gauge that sure felt darn close, and I was really tempted to put it in with teflon tape. I'm sure it would hold the PSI but I was wary of it backing out over time. The good thing is you'd know about it if it did!! I almost made a bracket for this but using the correct M14x1.5 adapter mkes it very snug.

looks clean!

why did you tap there, and why?

Is there anywhere that is good to tap while the engine is still in the car?
Yes, this is the factory location on a b204 b234. Its confusing since I posted this in the 9-5 section. The 9-5's (all b205/b235's) have the hole that is more behind the starter. It would be to the left in the pictures shown. It might be necessary to use a right angle fitting in those if the sender is very big.

The sender in this kit is smaller than the autometer one, but is still pretty good size. Another option would be to use a mechanical oil press gauge, but I don't like the idea of oil in the passenger compartment for fear of leaks :(. The mechanical gauge in the same brand as mine was half the price though, and the fitting is very small and would tuck just about anywhere.

Forgive my slight ignorance on this but, how will you test the dash light to make sure it works?

Does the sender just ground out when theres like only 6 psi or something?

UGH the whole fear of a mechanical oil pressure gauge is rediculous.

As long as when its installed you don't kink the nylon line anywhere and that you make sure all your compression fittings are good and tight (teflon tape or no teflon tape) you have nothing to worry about.

I've been running my mechanical oil pressure gauge for well over a year now and it only dripped a little oil on me 6 months after it was installed. A quick retorqe of those fittings and it hasn't leaked since.

Ugh, NOT having to take apart the dash or pilar, clean up the mess, and tighten the fittings is worth the extra 24 dollars :D

Also my thread does have pictures here in the tutorial section. Maybe I didn't put them in at SC.

That was one of my first threads back after having been banned.
Yes, it was SC that I looked at it. I did not find it here, I was looking in the OG 900, 9-3 section. I didn't think to look at the tutorial section!

204/234 its the same motor and same as far as installing. The only difference will be in how your route your wires/nylone tube into the cabin. I don't know where or how to run the stuff into the 9k cabin. Maybe somebody else has a good spot to run them in at.

Is there enough room in the 9-5 for the electric sender?

I could do a remote mount, but like I said that black oil catch is back there and doesen't give much room. Plus, now I have the motor back together, there is not much access to that anyway!!

Also, did you find a local supplier?
