NG900 Roof Spoiler Installation Q?

I know they are far and between, but I was wondering if any of you who DO have one can let me know how it is installed. Do I need to drill my hatch for the 2 bolts coming out of the spoiler or make some kind of mounting brackets?

Also, should I put some kind of rubber grommets or something on when I mount it (above/below the screws).

Thanks Sccrplyr for shipping that out, packed well, really appreciate it. Get it back from being painted on Thursday.

You should of tried fitting it before painting so you don't run the chance of scratching the paint. All you do is drill the holes in the hatch, attach the nut via the underside of the hatch and tighten. I also put so clearcoat on the holes to retard any rust in the future. It's a PITA though. Took me about an hour of careful drilling and such. It's sort of hard because if you drill too close to the edge of the hatch the spoiler will hit when the hatch is open on your roof. I think my holes were 29 3/4 from center hole to center hole, and 1/2 inch down from the hatches edge.

I've got a small pin scratch that is about 20in. long on the top strip of metal on the hatch anyway, thanks to the LAST bodyshop that painted the entire car. Can't see it except for after you wax it and then it REALLY shows. Someone paints your car and then scratches it, frickin geniuses. At least USAA dropped them as a premier account as it took them over a month to paint it, and they repeatedly told me it was being painted. I would go by and it was sitting there...again, geniuses. Even returned it once becuase I saw DRIPS on the quarter panel, and this from the best independent body shop in town!

Should have test fit it, but busy putting in an IC now and hopefully a new clutch cable tomorrow (snapped....again). At least it should match well as the car has a one year old paint job!

One corner of the spoiler was knicked, not sure if you noticed or if it happened in shipping, and one bolt was a little stripped on the end and shorter? Doesn't seem like it is going to be a problem!

Will post as soon as i get it back - now, if I could only get rid of the old bumpers - thinking about having them painted like taladega if the guy painting the spoiler does a good job.

Geez what a pain in the ass. I drilled the holes .5in down - spoiler still hits and can't open the hatch to bolt it down. This sucks. Now it is raining due to the tropical storm... so halfway there - geez I feel like I have been waiting to put this thing on for a year.

Think that someone pulled one of the bolts out because 1 is shorter than the other one and in at a different angle. will work it out eventually.

Finally got the spoiler on, with all the rain and Ernesto just got around to putting it on. Still have to put in the antenna plug, have it painted, just being lazy - also have a "turbo" badge from an 80/90's 900 - same font and style as the license plate on the front and that is on the seats on the interior (from a 2002) - car is now just a a Saab turbo!!

Picked up some new dents during Ernesto on the roof and hood - should be getting those fixed along with whatever is wrong with the engine after turning it into a Saabmarine - maybe a new turbo (tdo4 maybe??? :)

Going to do it. Had the front off when I was putting in my IC and forgot about it. I would like some kind of filler strip,I have seen it, but am looking for something different. I saw a book when I was restoring my boat's rubstrip, all of the same stuff in lots of different shapes, sizes, colors, contours, thought I would look and see if I could find anything to fit.

Ummmmmmm... no! After missing out on the order almost a year ago and then dumb lucking into this one and going through the PITA of putting it on, it is staying on the car until the car explodes or the wheels fall off.

IF my insurance company decides to total it (probably not now) I would be getting rid of it... unless I could buy the car back for nothing and have some mad money to put wheels, motor, turbo, body kit, more, more, more, more into it!

I think that is the one I saw - I heard it didn't look bad without it. I am hoping, to get the tops of the bumpers painted Taladega style. Maybe new mirror skins to paint also.

Sure, I would love to - first baby on the way (Nov), don't want to rattle her teeth out before they grow in! Is there a nice combo of ride/performance?

oh well first off... congrats on the baby.

second, i'm sure there's something that'll give you a drop with out an uber stiff ride... you should be able to get a pretty darn nice drop and still maintain excellent ride quality. i don't know much about suspension, especially that for saabs, but i'm sure someone will jump in here and help you out.

edit: you still have a sexy car though. with the baby in the back, you should tint the windows so it's not too bright for him/her...
