Got blasted with radar yesterday by an unmarked Explorer with civilian plates

Seems a lot of our staties are switching to exploders for some reason.

 

I thought Ford changed the "500" to the "Taurus". Because of all the business they lost after discounting the Taurus line? No?

There are a few of these guys floating around the area now.

The low profile light bars and the inside the windshield lightbars are making them harder and harder to spot.
Plus the locals use VASCAR and ENRADD not radar to clock your speed.

I have seen the black unmarked Chargers with the black 18" steel wheels.....badass.

 

We have the chargers too. Dark blue with civilian plates and no external markings/lights/antennas.

 

I saw a Fairfax County(VA) marked Charger for the first time last month on the Dulles Toll Road...

Of course, it had pulled somebody... nasty looking beastie.

 

Funny. All the Maryland drug dealers dropping off merchandise for weekend sales in my old D.C. hood used Chargers. Heh.

we have chargers in CO, but i havent seen the 500 around yet. And i can understand why Ford dropped the "Taurus" name, cause the car was so outdated, just the name was deterring customers from the car. They dropped the name and came out with the fusion, and the 500 was a "big car" assumably to replace the crown vic. So why would the 500 be renamed the taurus?? does ford just like have a small group of elderly and low income people trying to buy their cars?

 

Ford said no one knew what the 500 was, the name had no brand equity. Taurus, for good or for bad has equity. The Taurus started out well, for many years it was the best selling car out there.

The 500 was not designed to replace the Crown Vic, in fact its still been made all along. Its larger than the Fusion which by all accounts is the proper sucessor to the Taurus but isnt a boat and RWD like the old fart buyer wants in the Crown Vic.

Whether the 500 is good or bad wasnt an issue since Ford's research said people had never even heard of a 500. So at least it being called the Taurus they knew the name.

 

The Chargers are starting to show up around here now. I saw one in full police regalia (black with white doors/roof, push bar, LED lightbar on top) on the highway the other day. Those things look mean as fuck in police trim, way more intimidating than a Crown Vic.

 

We have a few over here but they're not the SRT's.

Our Crown Vics are faster than the new chargers lol.

We have some new impalas as well.

 

Crown vics are intimidating enough. Especially MN State Patrol with the brown colors.

I don't know why local police are going with chargers, while the staties are changing to impalas?

I see unmarked Dodge Intrepids fairly often. Those are the worst.. I also see Chargers, but they stick out like a sore thumb, police or not.. Those Intrepids are quite stealth.

 

And you didn't stop to take a picture of it so you could post it here for all of us to see? I'm sure the officer wouldn't have minded. lol

 

LOL. The only camera I have is a cell phone camera and I can't get any pictures from it onto my computer. Stupid phone.

 

Just spotted some of our new "vintage" undercover cars yesterday, theyre rolling a beat-up beige 95 Honda Accord and a blue late model Dodge Neon they also have a livery cab with livery plates.

 

yea i dont think theyd catch me in either of those, without the help of their ever present 2way radios

 

I dunno the Accord could be V-tec, in that case we're all fucked.

 

Highway driving to Indy through Illinois, I saw a purple mid 90's Camaro with no top mounted lights pull a car over. That made me slow down in fear of what else might be out there.

 

Last I knew Indiana had retired all its unmarked camaro's. Also feel free to come through evansville some time.

 

I was on my way home from NY yesturday from Terrytown and pasing through NJ saw an un-marked - standard run of the mill Grey Charger with lights all hidden on the other side of 287 who had pulled someone over - and it was a sure thing it was a V8.... damn "HEMI"
