So I blew my driver's side door speaker I installed a couple months ago. So I went over to best buy and tried them all out. I selected the Kenwood KFC-1679ie 6.5" speakers. I haven't really tried them out, just tested to see if they would work. I'm going out later to test em. I used the stock housing to mount them, worked perfect. Only one question. They are two way speakers with tweeters mounted on top, see photos below, but only bass comes out of them. Is this normal for the stock amp?

Oh they cost about $80.

HELP!

Ok the verdict is in. These are the worst speakers I've ever heard for bass. I had the bass level where I had it for the stock speakers, and turned the sound up to test them up. I wasn't even anywhere near as loud as I usually go before the stock speakers would begin to distort and these things are already distorting. It sounds horrible!! What the hell. I just spent an hour re-wiring everything from the stock setup. Now I just want to go back to stock. Help me out guys. Did I wire them wrong? I can't turn my music up at all now without hearing a horrible bass sound!!

The problem is that your stock speakers were midrange speakers made for bass. These that you bought aren't made for bass.. these are just two-ways made for high and basic midrange for clarity.

Basically if you want the bass back, you need a 6.5 mid/bass.

I don't think Best Buy has mid/bass .

Ok. Well I took it over to Best Buy to see if a bass blocker would help or anything else. They said it's because of the stock head unit and stock amp. So I am just going to get the stock clarion 6.5" again. Is anyone selling a pair? I know I get a pair for $40. Unless of course there is a mid/bass speaker somewhere I can purchase. Can anyone post a link for one on ebay or something? Help me out. I'm outta here thursday morning and want something before then. I was going to just put the stock speakers back in, but when I looked in the outside trash it was empty....Damnit...

Here's an audiobahn mid bass set, I have audiobahn 6x9s so that would be nice: http://cgi.ebay.com/Audiobahn-AMD60...W-PAIR_W0QQitemZ5794684973QQcategoryZ32819QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Rob, good lesson to be learned. Never buy car audio at Best Buy. My brother's audio in his car is PHENOMENOL... I don't remember the name of his sub, but he has the 15", and the 12" version set world records... (I think it's called a Magnum, but I don't remember the company name?) it's built more for fidelity though. But will hit like 135 decibels in the car with one sub, too. But he did tons of research, read figures, and even talked to the owner of the company. I believe it only has six employees. I'd check out some car audio forums and see what other people recommend. Often times you can save money, and get better speakers. I bought some from Best Buy once and they were shit. I didn't get good sound again in my rear deck until I paid 20 dollars for a pair of Jensens, and it sounded stock again. The audio buffs on the forum will laugh at me for that, but to be truthful, it fits my needs perfectly.

Looks like I am a day late and dollar short, but check these out:

I had the same problem that you did. I blew one of the door speakers. I bought a set of component speakers and just install the mid. Good but not great. So, I replaced the stock amp. Then I added a sub. Then I replaced the amp that replaced the stock amp. Then I got rid of the dash speakers and cut the component tweeters into the door panel. It is now fantastic! I highly recommend this course of action to any NG900 owner.

I just ordered the stock speakers and they should be here soon...If I am not happy with them, I'll let you guys know what I want to do. I really wanted to upgrade, and it seems like I should have selected a midbass speaker instead of a component 2 way or whatever...

Ok the stock speakers arrived. And let me say, I LOVE THEM. I can't believe I went that long without them. If anyone DOES NOT have door speakers, buy them, and I will personally install them! I am a pro at removing the door panels now. Takes me under two minutes, I've had them off so many times these last few weeks. But I love the stock speakers. Except one of them is going to go soon, so I am going to see if they can send a free replacement..

If they end up sucking and you wanna go for soemthing sweet, look at a set of Image Dynamics 6.5" CSX62's components @ 2ohms. They are pretty expensive, but i have heard nothing but great things about them.

Obviously...youll have to negate the stock amp and get something better to run them off of, but they are worth it. Just disconnect the dash speakers, install those into doors and run them off amp, run stock 6x9's off the head unit, and then if you want get a sub and youll be golden.
