There's a 323 sedan with a huge front mount intercooler that I often see parked near a place I used to go to school, and today he went well out of his way to follow me up onto the highway for a few pulls. I have to say I was really impressed, I thought I was going to destroy him but I only walked him. Those things have what... a 1.6l engine like in the awd 323 GTX? Pretty neat little car.

My mom used to have a 323. It had something like 82 crank hp. :/ That thing would FLY with a turbo.
They are fun cars, one of my first cars was a 88' 323 GTX. I plan to own another one day. It was a neat little car, could lock up the center diff and have alot of fun on the dirt. Can't go wrong with a homologated rally car. And when you hit full boost, it had a idiot light of a turbo spooling up, lol.
They were available in the US. There is at least one here in Louisville.

They're rare, but they're out there. Should be a fun little car with very little modification.
