low boost pressure

i know this is a common topic, but after reading over many many posts, none seemed to match up with my current situation. so please forgive me if this is a repeat. anyway, heres the problem:

i have a 97 900se w/cold air intake, forge bov and dawes device mbc. in it's prime about a year ago, i could push about 12-14 psi all day long. the turbo would spool up, and hit 15.5 right before fuel cut, and hold at about 12--14 psi. lately, my boost levels are consistently low. turbo spools up, and levels hit about 10psi and taper off to about 8psi. any ideas on what could be robbing my boost? I have replaced all vacuum lines, and checked all seals surrounding the delivery pipe, ic piping ect. and i have found no leaks. also, i have adjusted my mbc to the max pressure, and stretched out the spring inside. The rod attached to the wg actuator is attached properly and has never been adjusted. any input would be helpful, i would love to hear that turbo spooling at 15 psi again soon!!

Yeah, I think Coop's on the right track. Definitely try to eliminate any significant potential points of failure (such as the Dawes device) and see what happens. After removing it, you might want to disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes to reset the ECU and then do a few adaptation runs and see what sort of boost you're running.

Good luck!

I dont even have a mbc and Im having these same issues. Since I bought the car it has been boosting pretty high, but as of the last couple weeks she has been low boost levels like described above, and random spikes to wayyy over 15.5 psi. Not cool

Your problem is more then likely a stuck/dead/dying bpc valve. Last time I had one fail on my 9k it'd peg a 30# gauge in 2nd gear.

well, i tried swapping out the mbc with another one i had lying around, and i still push the same amount of boost, even with the vac hose removed from the wg actuator, it remains the same. i have two questions, however. What is an adaptation run? and how does disconnecting the wg actuator influence the system? (the car still releases boost pressure through the bov with the hose removed from the actuator) thankfully am not having any boost spikes like sleepr... thank god. that sounds like a sticky situation. but the boost remains at a disappointing level pretty much half what it used to be, with no spike or any pressure above 10psi

Niceeee, anyone know where you can pick these up. Or is it a dealer only item.
If your problem is indeed the bpc valve, don't get it at the dealer. I (as well as numerous others) have had many issues with new ones crapping out in a short time period as well. I picked up a used one from goldwing (www.goldwingsaab.com) for around $100 (1/2 the cost of a new one) and it came with a 6 month warranty. Far better then the $200-250 that eeuro/thesaabsite/etc want for a new one and they only offer something like 60 day warranties on them.

edit- this is for T5 bpcs...

so, im going to get it smoke tested and see if i can find a leak in the system. However, if i am going to replace the turbo, which model should i replace it with? I know the 9000 and 9-5 have the td04 - same as the viggen. but which years and models? i would love to throw a bigger turbo on there if i'm going to replace it.

but before i do, how can i determine if i just have a faulty wg actuator?

Unplug your WGA and see what you get for boost...if your going to replace the turbo anyway, a faulty WGA doesnt matter since you will have a new one.

As for the turbo, the TD-04 from the Aero is different than that from any other TD-04. It has the 6cm2 (vs 5cm2) exhaust housing so its got a little more top end, however it requires a bit of work to fit in your car (assuming your an NG/9-3) as in the 9k's the exhaust manifold faces the passengers side and the compressor housing faces the drivers side, exact opposite as in a NG/9-3.

good news- while checking over the engine bay for leaks, i found that the thick hose that goes from the throttle body to what i assume is a idle control unit was split nearly end to end on the underside of the hose! I don't know how long its been this way or how it could possibly hold even 5psi... you should have seen the size of this tear... anyway the turbo acts like it's new. spool time as well as peak boost and base boost are solid! i had forgotten how fast these cars can be! thanks for all your help, i will keep some of the info on turbos for the near future.
