I have read a few flickering lights posts. So here is my info.

If your interior lights are flickering, It can possibly be 2 things. (maybe more) On thing to check is the light sensor, located next to the clock in the SID. Cover it with your finger and see if any intensity changes in the interior can be detected. Do this at daytime and nightime. Because nightime, is the right time....I believe this means you will need a new sid.

If you can press on the thumbwheel on the interior light dimmer, and have the lights come back on, then you will need to replace the unit. It simply pulls out and unplugs. This was my problem and probably the cheaper solution to fix.

I've got this speedometer light display issue. I turn the car on at night and the speedometer lights come up for a second and turn off. The black switch works to turn the dials off and the radio display off. the dimmer works fine to turn the radio display up and down so I don't think it's the dimmer. I suspect it's the SID light sensor. Do these just go bad or is it fixable? Is there a reset for the SID that I need to do to reset this unit? I also noticed that at night the SID display is full bright so it's thinking its daylight which is why the speedometer backlight is turned off. Any Ideas?

I don't know much about sid repair because until Feb, I owned a functioning one.

If you have a ng900 pm Delorean, I know he picked up a bunch thinking they went wrong as often as the 9-3 ones. If you have a 9-3 one, contact Kramer microrepair or bba reman and see if that is something they address.

Well, the question is could it be something other than the SID is failing or is there a SID reset. My car is a '95 900s with non-turbo 2.3 engine and the SID is a 3 button version. Can anyone describe the operation of the automatic dimmer that the manual does not. Or, is there a simple fix for pulling the SID like with the light display issue described?

Another question is, how could you override the backlighting to be on all the time?

Checking the car's battery and the alternator output would be worth looking at as well - being a fluctuation in vehicle voltage could cause this as well. 9000's are notorious for this and it's considered normal under certain circumstances.

My vintage does this all the time with ALL lights - interior and exterior - it's due to an old charging system which needs updating.

speedo backlight turns off

My Speedometer display back-light turns on when the car turns on and then you can see it step dim down to off. So, at night I have no back-light on the speedo. I suspect it's the light sensor in the SID. I was wondering if there was a reset or a way to reset the SID. Or is there a way to get this light turned back on without swapping the SID? Or is the SID easy to fix. Is this a common problem? Thing is the back-light for the SID and the backlight for the Odometer are at full power so I think the light sensor thinks it is daytime when it is not.

I just didn't want to have to replace my SID. I'd be willing to open it and fix it.

There was a moment earlier when I saw this happen, but then it fixed itself. Does anyone know what fuse to remove that disconnects the SID, in case that might reset the SID?

speedo display

It's not just the speedo, its all the lights in the front display. The light behind the odometer is different from all the other lights in the display. At night, when you turn the car on all the lights in the speedo display backlighting lightup for a second and then the dimmer steps them down to off.

I haven't pulled the SID yet. So, If I pull the SID and start the car does that keep the backlight on? What I wanted to do was pull the fuse powering the SID, but I can't decode the fuse panel index. The fuse index is kind of confusing and I"m not sure which number powers the SID. I tried a few, but it didn't turn off the SID.

I'm sure the sensor thinks it's daylight when it's dark. I just thought maybe there was a SID reset somehow. But, if I have to I'll pull the SID and try to fix it.
