Well on my way to my buddy Scotty's house, I was in the passing lane on the highway, with a car to my right, and oncoming traffic in the opposite lane, with something in the middle of the road in front of me. I couldn't swerve to avoid it, so I prayed that I would drive right over it. Turns out it was a chunk of a log, and it shattered into 2 when I drove over it. It hit something, I couldn't tell what.

My car sounded a little different, but felt about the same. When I got to scotty's house, this is what I found :(

Are there any skidplate options for the NG900? Other than the 6pt subframe brace? I'm sure the subframe brace would have saved my downpipe.

There aren't any holes that I can see, I'm sure i took a serious performance hit though :(

that dent should be fixable, weld some of those rods they use to pull dents out of cars, attach a slide hammer, should be able to get it back somewhat normal. or like you said, cut the section out, weld a new one in. definitely need a skidplate, those ng900s are scary vulnerable to that kinda stuff.

Man that sucks. x2 on it not hitting your oil pan.

I'd be interested in a skid plate as well. Preferrably not as expensive as the Saab Savior one.

back a years ago, the 2 pt subframe brace was kinda controversial especially on lowered cars because it would get caught on raod debris and tear off, sometimes taking the oil pan or part of it with it. before you say you are so sure it is a great idea, how many people do you know who run a 2 point subframe brace, it's not a super popular mod like a rear ARB.... ;)

6 pt. will not help you there. I hit ice with my 6 pt. on and I have a dent in the exact same place in my stainless steel DP. The front end of the brace is open, like spread legs and your DP where it bends to go straight back represents the testicles. So, OUCH.

I believe that that, or using one or two additional cross bars on the brace, would work. Must be steel though - cannot weld aluminum to steel.

why don't you just bolt a big sheet of aluminum to the sub frame and skip this brace? a good thick quality skid plate bolted to several points is going to have the same effect.
This is true. The SaabSavior skidplate will function well as additional bracing. The 6 pt. cross brace appears to give more access beneath for things like oil changes though, and tubular steel is going to brace better overall than sheet aluminum.

Aye, I picked up Ricot's Saab Savior skidplate. Looks quite beefy, and definitely would've saved your exhaust. Just haven't quite had a chance to install it... it was raining each day I planned on doing it this week :(

I'll get it on there soon though so I can let you folk know if it was worth the $75 I paid for it :p

I know on the 6point we were worried about crash-worthiness (mostly crushing, absorbing the energy and penetrating the cabin.) Both of these are not a problem. We have actually had a customer test this. It folded just as we had predicted. Nearly stopped he got sandwiched by a F350 at near highway speed in a CV.

Another concern is where the air goes from the radiator / IC.

I want to go the other direction for our new play car. With a very stiff tubular replacement subframe. Maybe sometime there will be time to tackle it.

Take a look under the recent potiac vibe or torrent. Don't know which, but it looked nearly identical to a 9-3. Only with single peice lower controll arms, and serviceble ball joints!
