I nearly totaled the Viggen last night. The wife and I were coming back from Ikea in Burlington (got some kick ass Poang Chairs) around 9pm. We were heading up highway 6 which is basically a four lane regional road with lots of cops. So we are heading up the hill and thru a construction zone. The construction zone ended and getting near top of the hill I am driving past a transport truck around 60 mph. When out of nowhere he starts drifting over in my lane and puts his signals on like he is coming over. So I react very calmly and drift into the center of the road (no oncoming traffic). Got to remember its very dark... I start givin her more gas to get past before he rubs me out. Next thing I know there is a island curb coming up with a small sign on it. I'm like fuk.... I give her and thread the needle between the curb and the truck which was almost entirely in my lane. It must have been so close... would love to see an instant replay. I look in my mirror and he is totally in my lane. Turns out he must have seen the Tim Horton’s sign at the last second and went for it as he needed to make a left turn at the top of the hill. I was in a bit of shock after that. Funny thing is my wife said she was totally calm and confident in me.

I thank God nothing happened.... we have a 2 year old daughter that needs us. I could have hit the curb and spun in front of the truck. Fuck that was close.
Damn tired lazy ass truck driver. I should have turned back and told him off.

Know the feeling about getting merged on, both on the bike and in the car. Have to always be ready to defend yourself on the road...

How do you get your significant other to be calm in driving situations? I so much as pull the e-brake on snow for fun in a parking lot and she freaks out.

I need to get her to chill.

Kick her out the door into the snow while e-braking in the winter.........that'll chill her. Ok serious note........some people are calm others are not. My sister hates to drive on the highway and is easily freaked out if a car is coming to close while merging and it becomes a bitch fit afterwards.

Ive found truck drivers are either extremly respecful drivers and very good at what they do, or totally clueless asshats.

I was delivering a 28ft boat last week, easily a $150k boat, merging onto the highway, 3 tractor trailer trucks in a convoy, no other traffic. The first two move into the left lane so I can get out and keep moving, the third wouldnt budge and damn near ran me and the boat into the guard rail.

I guess I could have braked. I may have ended up in the opposite lanes and knew there would be a group of cars coming from the lights at the top of the hill. I would have had to brake hard and we had cargo including a 6' floating shelf. My gut just said get around this guy as I was more then 1/2 way from the front of his truck and it happened so fast with the curb coming up, I was committed at that point. I honestly never thought of hitting the brakes.

It's always nice to have a car with balls that moves good without down shifting.

I was surprised by my wife too. She was like "I hope that guy got a scare".

No, you should have applied those 308mm brakes you have. What did you gain by getting in front of the truck?

EDIT: I hind sight this post is a bit a-holy, I'm sorry, but I just think that was an extremely unsafe manveur and would have been dealt with better if you slammed the brakes on when he first started moving over on you.
