Ok..... I am stuck on this....

I am trying to install a new clutch cable in my sisters 95 900SE V6.... ok, it is looking impossible to me because of all the shit thats in the way of the firewall and cramped spaces..... The other thing that is making me scratch my head is the interior end of things..... I took off the lower knee boulster and shit and I can barely see the fucking cable.... how do I get the cable out and better yet, how do I get it back in once it's out?! its like this weird housing and shit.

HELP

I did a clutch cable replacement back at the end of september. It's not too difficult. I had a haynes manual to help me. Unfortunately I don't have my haynes manual with me or I'd scan the page for you to reference.

You have to disassemble a LOT from underneath the dash. Even then it's a little bit of a bitch to get the cable unhooked from the pedal. Even worse to get the loop of the new cable onto the pedal and get the tension spring back into place.

For under the hood portion. We had to use a breaker bar to pull the clutch arm back enough to get the clutch cable catch inbetween the fingers.

well I have the cable out on the engine bay portion..... that was the easy part.....

now for the interior pieces.... I have the whole knee boulster out and everything and I can see the cable and feel it, but I am not sure how and what it hooks onto.... If someone could give me a detailed explanation on how to do it I would appreciate it....

BTW.... did I mention cable clutches are the gayest designs in the world.... the person who decided to put a cable clutch in a Saab should be shot in their knee caps and elbows... and then slowly cut off his fingers.... that way he can feel just a little bit of the pain he is putting me through....

Hydraulic Clutches FTW!!!

if you have it unhooked at the clutch arm then you have to work blind in the car reach up and push the retaining spring away from the pedal. The spring will stay on the pedal. lift off the cable end adn install in reverse order. Make sure the cable is seated correctly where it goed through the firewall or it will not adjust correctly and you will have to do it all over. alittle lube on the rubber end that goes through the firewall will help

ok.... this god damn retaining spring is really starting to piss me off..... I can just about get it back on but my fingers can do it.... is there any tricks to putting the retaining spring back on...

I loosened up the 13mm bolt that lets the pedal come back towards the driver as far as possible, but the retaining spring seems to get hung up on the plastic part of the cable so I can't get it where it should.... I am about ready to give up on this god damn piece of shit...

my hands are all cut up and are killing me...

take a coat hanger and bend it in such a way that u can wrap it around the spring and pull it back. after you've done this, wrap the other end of the coat hanger around the steering wheel, and the spring is out of your way.

believe it or not, that's the easy part of the job. the part that's a real motherfucker is getting the end of the cable back into the arm on the trans is a bastard. all i can tell you there is have a helper with a big-ass prybar.

good luck

Really? I used my hand and put absolutely no pressure on the arm and just pulled the cable and it kept clicking and then put the cable in.... it took me all of 1 second.... easiest part of the job lol ..... no prybar needed for me and no need for a helper....

ahhhhhhh thank GOD!!! It's finally done.... I figured out why the spring wasnt going back on.... I was pushing it to the right instead of the left ;) hehe... when I went to push it to the left it went on the first try lol.... ALLLLL done.... drives beautifully.... better than ever.

yeah, I used a mangled coat hanger to hold the retaining loop out of the way to pull the end link up and out. I had a helper as well, but we just wedged a pry bar into the transmission arm that holds the cable in place and left it there until we were done. My mechanic said when he has to do a cable job alone he uses a coat hanger around the steering column trick. Not the hardest job (I think we did it in a half hour or so, which unfortunately didn't fix my broken to hell transmission) but the pedal is still insanely stiff compared to hydraulic! Even with brand new clutch kit, pressure plate, rebuilt transmission, and clutch cable! This realllly makes me want to convert to hydraulic.
