Getting ready to replace the rear shocks on my '87, and the bolts likely won't come out in one piece. Anyone know the size off hand?

It's my daily driver, so I can't risk shearing it off. I know the nut is 16mm. I'd like to know the bolt length and girth so I can pickup a replacement in case it shears when I remove it. Also I don't care if it's metric. Just need to know a comparable nut and bolt to throw in. Thanks.

maybe I mis-understood. if you are replacing, that means your taking the old one out and putting a new one in, right?

why nut just get the old one of by whatever means necessary, take another car (assuming you have access to another vehicle) and take the lower shock bolt (regardless if you shear it off or not) along with you to the store and get the proper nut and replacement bolt if you hacked off the old one...

I presume I understand properly now...

(I forgot the rears have a bolt and nut, my apology).
