Why don't people start buying up stock chrome grills and powercoating them black pearl? Powder coating costs are reasonable too.

 

it would be tough to bake a plastic part at the appropriate temperature i believe.

One of my guys that does the powdercoat has been playing with tinted clears.

Was going to test it sometime. I think the melting point of the factory parts will be the trouble.

I don't see $180 happening unless you find a serious Viggen owner or a mod crazy 9-3 guy with some money to blow. Otherwise, $180 is just too much for most. There's a reason everyone didn't buy these new a few years back and the retail price was probably it. Still though, nice item. Good luck with the sale.

So if I want to refinish my non-cool grille to make it cool like the black pearl ya matey, would anyone have any suggestions on how to finish, paint, brand, etc. I really like the pearl!

 

Sand; prime with something like zinc chromate, sand with super fine paper, paint with rattle can paint (your choice) and then clear it if need be. It may not look as good as the factory, but it's a grill.

I don't care if I keep or sell this grill. I was just putting it out here since there was a feed and interest in it. I think it was one of the best factory options i purchased with the car and I spent 5,ooo.oo in extras and upgrades. Saab doesn't offer many factory mods to personalize our cars and this truly is the most noticeable ones, I also have the trunk lid pull and licence plate bracket in black pearl.

I should keep it just incase since that is why I purchased it as a replacement when I found out they were being discontinued, see I love my 9-5 and plan to have it forever.

 

How is 180.00 too much when my Saab 9-5 was 43,000.00us brand new and the registration tax was over 2,000.00. if 180.00 was a lot of money I would have bought a hyundia , Kia or just a bicycle.

 

$180 is too much if no one wants to pay even half that price.

It does look good though.

 

I don't think the 9-5 grille will fit a Viggen. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a black pearl grill. You basically have to only use them for shows unless you drive cars and wash them constantly like me.

They are almost delicate if you want to keep the finish. (or so i've been told) I don't have one.

i was in an auto store the other day and walked by some "chrome tint spray" not sure what it was exactly called, it was to basicly tint out chrome wheels and accessories. ill have to go back and look further into it. perhaps this would be a good DIY option?
