Air Heat Shield

I put a 3-in cone on my air intake, replacing my traditional air box and filter. However, I am currently holding my cone against a wiring harness with zip ties so that it does not hit the top of the motor. Does anyone know where I'd be able to purchase an aluminum heat shield that would fit into the spots where the traditional box bolted down?

If you go with the flashing or home cut aluminum, I would put some kind of protection of the top as the edges might be sharp. I even did this on the Gen Saab shield as I have an uncanny ability to get cut. It's just some sliced vacuum hose that I had laying around, has worked out well for a while know.

Hard to see, but it's the black ring around the top.

I did a little experiment today.

I have no heat shield on my cone filter.

It was 86 degrees out and with my cone filter my intake temps were flippen high. 115-135. Idling at a stop would produce intake temps of 125+. ha!

I popped in my good old stock box/filter. At this point it was 70 degrees and my intake temps were 95-122 depending on how hard I was pushing it.

FYI, stage 3 with t25, viggen intercooler and 3" DP.

Well if you add the difference of the ambient, you come about even. Does your cone filter have the heat shield?

I have a big ol cone filter I put on, then took off, and I think I noticed a slight power improvement with an opened up air box (bigger pipe on the front). But that may not have been the case all the time. Definitely less heat soak at slower speeds though. And less cool noise. Oh well.
