My air con pump is breaking away from the engine due to a vibration I think, and with a one belt system is driving me up the wall. Can the pumps jam momentarily or could the belt damper have worn and causing vibration and then bolt failure. Other driven pulleys all seem in order. Help

Not really sure what could have caused it, but you may want to put in the shorter belt to bypass the AC to keep anything from happening until you can fix it for good. Good info here: http://www.saablink.net/forum/customizing-your-saab-9000/29891.htm

I can't believe I saw this post.
On Friday I was headed back to the office and the suddenly
the battery light is on and no power steering. I was a just
a couple of hundred feet from the parking lot. I pulled in and
opened the hood expecting the belt to have broken, but
what I found was the air con pump was hanging.
The bolts had sheered off.
