Yes, thats right my first every race. And no I didn't win so the idiot didn't die.

I was on the corner of Beacon St and Comm Av in Brookline, for those of you who know the place.

Its a two lane street that goes into one, where they are a line of parked cars on the side of the street. I was in the left lane, just sitting there when an 07 STI pulled up right next to us. He didn't think any thing of us and pulled up a few feet in front of us. I had turned off the AC only because the stupid cabin air sensor was making loud nosies, and hope to stop it.

So am sitting there and I say to my dad, hummmm STI, we should race. He knows all the bad things that can and will happen one day doing not so smart things like racing. But deep down he knew he wanted to.

So I had kept my revs up a bit, but nothing worthy of a launch. The light turns Green, I jump off the line, and before the STI knew what was happening I was in front about a half car length. I spun all the way though first, into second I had to shut down because the ass hole wasn't slowing down and there were a line of parked cars on his side, SO I was NICE and let him by.

Am sure he was surprised that a 14 year old car could be that fast. Plus having almost no clutch didn't help, am sure at the top of first I was not getting any power down.

We were neck and neck until I had started to slow down. Am sure he would have killed me from a start. He was either A. stupid and did not know how to drive, or B. I had a really good RT off the line. Any ways, we are cruising at about 45, and he turns off about half mile down the road, I drop it into 4th and gave him a little wooosh, or at least I hope I did.( But probably didn't :()

He was caught off guard. You said it yourself. Besides, don't be a ricer and instigate others to race you when it seems like this guy doesn't want to race.

+1,000,000

I'm all for having fun and have done plenty of racing in my day (not as much anymore) but i never did it (well maybe 1 or 2 times, but it was dumb) in the city or near parked cars, last thing you need is to kill/hit someone, especially a kid. but i'm not your dad or some crap so i won't preach anymore.

haha yea, the evo owner was really surprised. I raced a 07 sti (other driver knew it was a race too..) when I still had a boost controller. Went from 50ish to end of 4th. The sti wasnt really trying in 3rd, an I was at the sti's rear bumper the entire time. Once he realized the saab was actually fast he gunned it an put about a car and a half on me. I shift into fourth and by the end of it I was slightly ahead, and still pulling.

The boost controller spiked to 20ish, and settled down to 15.

A unmodded aero definilty couldnt beat an sti from stop. An I would be pretty skeptical of even a stage 3 or 4 beating an sti from a stop. I dont think the traction is there to do it.

Aero is a big shot that acts like he is above this forum, but for some reason continues to post here.

I wish someone would get some footage of these races on the highway or something. All of this AWD stuff is getting old. Each system has it's pluses and minuses, so STFU.

Rofflecups. I'm nothing more than a 20 year old college kid who still lives at home. Bigshot status is years away, don't get ahead of yourself.
I still own a Saab, hence my continued posting. It's also very fun to laugh at some members mis-conceptions about other cars and the enragement that ensues when they are called out or simply mocked.

Well according to Mike Saunders in another thread, AWD drivetrain losses usually average b/w 22-25%, so lets say 23%. And in the same thread, Topher mentions FWD losses are typically b/w 10-12%, so let's say 11%

Manufacturer Quoted Stock Torque

- 9k Aero - 258 #ft

258-258(0.11) = ~230 #ft

- STi - 300 #ft

300-300(.23) = 231 #ft

The hp difference would favor the STI, but in a highway pull, I feel that midrange torque (which both cars have a lot of) is a little more relevant.

So, I'm NOT trying to say that this means one is faster, there's so many factors that go into "who wins" beyond manufacturer's power figures, which are usually inflated anyway. I'm just saying that it's not unreasonable AT ALL to say that someone driving an Aero could pull on someone driving an STI on a nice highway pull through, say, 4th gear. I've never driven an Aero or an STI, so I have no basis for saying one is better than the other, I'm just sick of hearing all of these "sarcastic comments" every time someone mentions racing an STI or an EVO.

Cheers,
Andrew

I wasn't laughing at Aero "sarcasm" just his lack of brains.

Heres the numbers... plain and simple.
Stock 03-04 VIIIs 200-205WHP
Stock 05 VIIIs 210-215WHP
Stock STIs/STis 215-220WHP
Stock 06 IXs 230-235WHP

Its a Evo forum so their not bullshitting.

Stock Aero with intake and exhaust.

Alright numbers are pretty even, Aero has a little bit more. Ohh wait, lets talk about weight. EVO's and STi's are a minimum of 200lbs heavier than our tankish Saabs. I dunno how it doesnt seem "logical" that a Evo would lose to an Aero.

Please do explain?

Please try again.
As you said earlier in the thread-
exhaust opens up an evo just like it does for our saabs.
Please take numbers for both cars, with the SAME mods, or lack thereof.
Thanks.
