Sab, I think it's one of the originals from around '87. It's got the wider openings for the drain holes, which I believe were narrowed on later editions. You're right, the whaletail does look longer there - trick of perspective, I guess. Looks almost as large as an older Porsche 911 whaletail in the one picture.
Johnny Del, the tail is in decent shape. No splits. Though I did have to perform a bit of surgery on the rubber. It had hardened & contracted enough to bend the metal bar away from the edge about 3cm. I softened the rubber with brake fluid to restore its shape, cut open the rubber, dremelled out the bent portion, straightened it, put it back inside, and used Sikaflex to seal the rubber up again. No visible scars. The rubber doesn't lie perfectly flat in one spot but it's hardly noticeable.
Looks great! My 91 will hopefully be your car's twin come this weekend (adding whaletail too, possibly front airflow bumper). Only thing that I would do differently is not color-match the side vent covers. For some reason, I always preferred them the gray coloring of the body kit. Otherwise, your car looks like a mint, big $$$ SPG! Keep her clean!
Cark said the same thing about the vent covers. It actually didn't occur to me to match them with the SPG panels! I've always liked them to match the body color. You can't see the rubber gaskets so well in the picture but I left those black. Kind of a unique look.
What I'm still on the fence about is painting the SPG panels to match the car, like some folks do. Don't think I could do that to my SPGs!
