After a hiatus, I started working on replacing the fuel lines in my 81 turbo car with some braided ones intended for a VW (new ones from the person selling them on the Bay of Evils). They aren't ideal as it turns out so I might have picked the wrong type however I'll persist with the trial fitting if the weather is good tomorrow and see how things progress. I also have a new silicone gasket for the air metering unit and might completely remove the metering unit out of the car to renew that gasket.
Instead of the steel adaptors to connect the Saab fuel injector lines to the fuel distributor ports I've got brand new banjo fittings to mate with the end of the VW lines so the adaptors will be redundant.
Also, I will probably change which of the four ports I use to best suit the way the VW lines are pre-shaped. I may need to re-shape them or even go with a different type that doesn't have any pre-shaping (ie. just straight ones for a different VW model) though hopefully what I've bought can be configured to do the job. The fuel distributor in the car (Bosch -035 type) has all six ports usable (the two spares have blanking plugs fitted).
I have dug up my supplies of spare fuel injectors and found that I have two sets of steel ones pulled from other 8V engines (supposed to be tested and each set has the same date code), plus one set of brand new brass ones which are shorter by about 15 mm than the ones Saab used so I think they're the VW type.
I've got a new set of injector seals already.
Craig.
