Hello friends.
This was an idea I had a long time ago. I finally got around to getting the domain registered and throwing up a quick (and temporary) site. THIS IS NOT DONE! We are still "officially closed".

http://www.viggenregistry.com

MY ORIGINAL IDEA: Only 399 Viggens were imported in 1999. I want to see how many we can find.
THE IDEA EVOLVED: I asked a few folks for some tips and every one said I REALLY should not limit it to 1999's only. So this will, eventually, be for ALL North American Viggens.
THE IDEA RIGHT NOW: I am getting ready to officially 'open' the site. At this time, I would like 1999 NORTH AMERICAN VIGGEN OWNERS ONLY to please send me the following for ViggenRegistry.Com. After the site is officially open I will start taking registrations from all North American Viggen Owners. I want to "open" with the 99's only.

Please send me:

* Full Name - let me know if it is ok to publish your name. If not, I will do first name, last initial
* VIN - VIN's will NOT be published. I will collect them only to prevent duplication
* Year, Make, Model, Color
* Current location (City, State, Province)
* Mileage as of...
* Your absolute best computer wallpaper sized photograph
* Cars nickname, if applicable

If you owned a 99 Viggen and it has died and gone to Saabheaven, please send me that Vin and any details you wish to share. The 99's will be the only ones we track that have died. (Unless popular opinion suggests otherwise).

I will start assigning registration numbers as registrations are recieved. So the first 99 owner to email gets to be #1. (Or 99-C-01 or something).

I am VERY open to any tips or ideas you guys may have. Especially with the reg numbering. How should I do it? I was thinking something like:

99-1BC (1999 - 1st registration - Blue - Coupe) 2nd coupe would be 2 and so on...
99-1BS (1999 - 1st reg - Blue - Sedan)
00-1SV (2000 - 1st reg - Silver - Convertible)

I am also looking for ONE person to help me run the site. Does NOT have to be a Viggen owner, but it would be nice.

At this time registrations should be sent direct to me at Tony@viggenregistry.com

After the site opens it will be Registrations@viggenregistry.com

Finally, if you see a 99 Viggen owner on the road, this is your license to chase him down, catch him (if you can) and send him here, or to the site.

Thanks.

'99 Viggens only for the time being...weeeeaaaaakkkkkk!

Ya'll just jeasous that the '00 and ups have clear-smoked european turn signals, a better cobra pipe, single piece manfold w/air dispersion strainer, stronger pistons, and 5 more HP out of the box. ;)
LOL. Cobra pipe doesnt matter when you have a GS one, turn signals turned into E-codes, and your pistons are weak still. Also, according to dynos there hasnt been any correlation to the 5hp increase between years...its on paper and in your mind :p

Only thing I am jealous of your 2000 is the fact that it was included in the recall for the DI.

I think the 02 was the best Vig of them all. Has some of the bugs worked out of the other ones plus better internal as the 01 over the 99 and 00. (Talking stock here)

from tsn: For those interested, Saab USA customer service was kind enough to pull the following data for me. These numbers represent the total number of each body style Viggen imported into the USA:

1999: 3-door > 426

2000: Convrt > 245
2000: 3-door > 138
2000: 5-door > 421

2001: Convrt > 738
2001: 3-door > 129
2001: 5-door > 285

2002: Convrt > 322
2002: 3-door > 71
2002: 5-door > 157

Totals: 1999 = 426 2000 = 804 2001 = 1,152 2002 = 550
Totals: 3-door = 764 5-door = 863 Convrt = 1,305

I guess I just don't see the big deal about the 99. Some Vig styles were even more rare. Just my opinion. In the end they are all good. Just like some rare Talladega's and SE Anniversary editions.

MCY 3dr is rare no doubt and I would like one myself, but as a whole, 99' had the lowest production number for the year.

Blue was the flashiest most iconic color. I wanted a 99' because of the two tone interior, its a huge selling point. If my Vig was black on black it wouldnt be looked at half as much as it is.

I personally dont get people with 2000+'s getting high and mighty over pistons. ALL Viggen pistons are weak, i dont care about the year. They are ALL at risk, I have seen it happen in any year Viggen. You can either get lucky or be screwed. At the 300whp+ mark we all are looking for upgraded pistons regardless of year.

When most people envision thier ideal Viggen, often its a LB 99. Its what got the most press and exposure. Its also the car that got me hooked on Viggens and Saabs. If I would have seen it in black on black I dont know, I think I would have looked elsewhere.

Great idea. I second. I think it would be really cool to look through all the MCY Viggens and see where they are, or all the silver with tan interior, shit like that. I think it would also be nice to have a section where the owner could write a little bit about the history of their car if they know or something like that.

I have never had a use for TCS and in the past on older Saabs they haven only proven to be problematic.

Again, the weaker piston thing is a joke. ALL Viggens have weak pistons. A well maintained car will not give you a problem if you stay on plugs, dis and mafs regardless of year. If you are going to 300whp and above you will want pistons regardless of the year.

99 isnt the best year per se, I peronally love the 3dr configuration and color inside and out. To me, its the most appealing setup. Take a poll and see what others say.

Now, if they made that exact setup in 2002 I would likely have tried and found an 02. There is a member here with an LB 3dr that is somehow a 2000, no one knows for sure if he has the 5hp increase or the supposedly better pistons.

Feel free to spread the word wherever you like. I have had a decent response already in just 2 days from the 2 best Saab boards. ;) When it OFFICIALLY opens I will spread the word anywhere and everywhere I can.

It is certainly OK to send in a smaller picture and then replace it later with a bigger/nicer one.
Eventually it will have a forum with ONLY 2 sections. A PUBLIC FORUM and a PRIVATE FORUM. Only the Viggen owners will be able to access the private forum. Cool?

What do you guys think of my registration numbers? Not one comment, so I assume that's ok?

Also the thing about finding an ECU from a Viggen at a yard. I really don't think I can count that 100% as that car being dead. Think about it. You have a Viggen. Your ECU dies, and you find another on Ebay. You put that in. You wreck the car. Now the Viggen is in the yard, with a different ECU.
So when you can, tell me where you got the ECU. I will call the yards to try and verify if that is indeed the car in thier yard.

Awww man, not another forum!!!! I have 3 Saab forms to check already. I'd suggest hooking up with on one of the existing Forums in getting this registry hosted and then spawn a Viggen Only forum section in the existing forums.

I'd forsee yet another forum dying a very quick death.

HA! So it was 4 pages of off-topic crap and about 3 relevant posts. You guys suck. ;)

I just want to say, for the record, I am ONLY showing the 99 love because I only want to get started with like 30-40 cars. If I accept all Viggens now, I will be swamped. I mean ZERO offense to the other Viggen owners. I love them all.
Also I did not realize the sales numbers were THAT low for all the Viggens. They certainly are VERY rare.
Should I also track the dead later models? I am thinking yes now after seeing the total numbers.
So you guys would like pages sorted by YEAR then by COLOR then MODEL? or Model then color?
