So last night my co worker and I headed to RI to pick up a one owner 1983 Saab 900. 5 speed, 158500 miles, garaged and only driven through the summers. He has every service record going back to the date of purchase! It was a bit dusty, but fired right up and made the 2+ hour drive back.

This will be it's picture progress thread in similar format to my NG900's thread: http://saablink.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19755&highlight=1996+900se

The only things wrong that I noticed on the drive home were that the clutch whined a tad when pressed in, and the spring that makes the gearshift nob return to center when in neutral didn't work, but I had no problem finding the gears.

My short to-do list includes
-Tires
-Brake bleed (pedal is a little spongy, not too bad)
-Epic interior/exterior detail
-Remove tow hitch
-Mount Hella lights
-New bulbs all around
-Battery
-Belt/hoses as needed (OK so far)

The car already has new(ish)
-Exhaust
-Alternator

Since it was dark when we picked it up, here are a few pictures the owner sent me via email:

Oh and let's talk about rust. The car has two small rust spots. One is under the car beneath the passenger seat about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and the other rust is in the left rear wheel well. This section is about the same size and there is a pin hole into the trunk. Other than that... well, the fenders are all there and there is no rot/rust anywhere else. Oh, maybe the surface rust on the lip of the wheels, if you count that .

Stay tuned!

It's nice to see OLD 900's coming out of storage and back into the hands they belong. Good luck on the repairs - looks like a nice DD - or classic car to keep around a few more decades. Slow and Steady I think was the moto for those older 8V n/a's :)
Very, very nice! There's such an elegant simplicity with the earlier base 900s. Long live 8-valves! The shifter centering spring is a pretty easy fix on these earlier cars because it is external.

Hey, if you don't want that hitch I'd be interested in buying it from you, PM me.
that car is rad. =)
Beauty! Love the color--and the wheels. Nice find.
Mark! You lucky SOB. That's awesome. Congrats!

Slow and steady indeed. What a different driving style compared to my NG. A little more downshifting involved! I'd love to own this car for at least another decade.

I'll be removing it at some point this month. I'll PM you when it's removed, if you're willing to wait a week or so. (I have to travel a bit coming up.)

Brett, you should come check it out some time! Hopefully I'll have plates and new tires within 3 or 4 days from now.

I will definitely take you up on this soon, haha; can't wait! I can't believe how shiny it still is for an '83! Those mint-green floor mats look sort of familiar, eh? :D
Car really does look nice - bet it looks just as good @ 50mph as it does standing still.

Those can do 50mph? ;)

Great pickup!
The paint looks pretty good, but you will be amazed what a good detailing can do to that color.

You had to go there... I'll add floor mats to the list.

It must be a Saab thing.
Truely awesome, I bet that car is a blast to drive. And I agree that most underestimate what a quality detail can do for any car, definately keep this thread updated as you go!
Looks good. Hard to find a 27 year old 1 owner car. I have a hard time making 27 days
so pretty...... love that blue

Haha, no! I think they're supposed to look like that. At least from the pictures they sort of seem to match the blue interior. I was implying maybe that's where they came from in your NG?
