Not that exciting but I called out Friday and had an amazing day of rooftop pools in DC, boating/tubing on a 30' boat that docks at the Waterfront and apparently that is when all the lay offs happened. So they "let" me work today and and told me at about 4:30.

Hoora impromptu party at my house!

Don't get so drunk you rip your ear off.

Again.
So what's the plan...
Nice, I could use a beer.
Did the fact that you took friday off have anything to do with it maybe? I say have a ball, just post the stories tomorrow haha.
remember no I in drunk
Ouch. My condolences. Getting laid off sucks.
Sorry to hear, bro. I hate getting laid off. Hope you find something better quickly. :)
Bad news to hear! Sorry about that, Mark... Best of luck in your search for a new employer!
Marine Corps is hiring.

Again.
I made sure to lock the bikes away!

Well it was not the choice of anyone on my project, it came from higher than them. I have 8-10 people (all with 15-20 years experience) behind me ready to write glowing reviews.

I'll be home probably all this week.

Actually it gave me more money. Everyone else that got laid off were told Friday. They let me work another day (Monday). Had I gone in on Friday, that would have been my last day anyway.

Yup, had about 15 people over.

First time I have ever left an employer by not my choice, so yes it does.

Thanks, I know you just recently went through this.

Thanks, I have a lot of people behind me since it was a money thing and not performance thing. Hopefully it's quick.

So, wait, you got in to the office on Monday and everyone else was gone? Weird.

I hypothesize that the only reason I didn't get laid off from my Connecticut paper was that I somehow was always out of the office when they actually went through and canned people. I'd walk in about 45 minutes later to the survivors looking like death and empty desks here and there. The day I gave my notice, the HR director told me I had great timing - me quitting saved my boss' job. He just got demoted instead.

When I got laid off in Cleveland, I actually had to stick around for another week when everyone else in that group got to go home. Turns out having most of the content for the next month's magazine sitting halfway finished on my desk bought me an extra week's worth of pay. But it was weird for that week - dead journalist walking.
Sucks man, I feel for you.

I've been laid off twice. Both times were about a month after a promotion. Neither was performance related. Both companies were growing and I got promoted to middle management positions--then WHAM! The economic shit hit the fan. Middle management is always the first to go. I've avoided it since being hit twice.

First time was because the ad agency I was working at lost the Freihoffer Bakery account, second time was because we got purchased by a bigger company that then promptly had their IPO on Black Friday. There's some foresight for ya.

Second time was not too bad because they took care of me. I got a full-year's severance and they paid for a top-notch career counselor. I took the year to hang out with my one-year-old son and to learn web coding. Still kinda sucks though. I liked my job there.

If they offer, I highly recommend career counseling. That was an eye-opener on networking and possible career change. I was told I'm best suited to be a photographer or a landscape architect. I'm not sure how much faith I put in those results though. Somebody else from my office was told he's best suited to be a puppeteer. Why the fuck puppeteer was even on there as a career is beyond me.

hahaha puppeteer? this just made my night

maybe he was ugly and good with his hands?
What, no MacGyver option, turbocon86? To me, that seems like the best fit for you.

Career counselor: "Can you make a car repair tool using this Dremel, a section of PVC and a Sharpie?"

turbocon86: "Damn straight I can."
