I am purchasing winter tires for the '00 Aero, will the sidewall be too tall?

no it should work because the width is narrow. stock size is 225/45/17. I wouldnt do it if you can just buy the right size. I ran 225/50/17s for 3 years
I think that would be a bit too much, it looks like 205/50/17 would be exactly the same as 225/45/17 and 215/50/17 would be ok too. Not sure if 215/55/17 would be ok or not but it does make it larger and the spedo off 5.4% too slow.
