Wheel limitations?

What are the limitations for wheel clearance on my 99 9-3? I have the car lowered with Eibachs too, supposidly 1.2"

I want to go with 18's. And I want wider in the rear. Cand I do that as long as all of the width is out from the car? It looks like I could go with another inch or so of rubber back there. Maybe to a 245 or 255 tire. I could probably do the same in the front as well if I really wanted to. This probably would be a better idea because of tire wear management and such.

So I'm starting to look for some 18s. Its pretty hard given our bolt pattern. There is always the BBS CH, but the package would be about $2400 with decent tires. This is just a little more than I want to spend, but I still might do it.

I saw these while cruising vortex. I like a lot of wheels they put on the mkIV's. The problem again being the bolt patterns. I'm looking into these wheels right now:

Let me know your thoughts guys. This won't be a decision I will make lightly!!!

i have always heard that 225 in the rear is the max, cause it rubs when people in the back.
But im sure if you roll the fenders in the rear you can go like 215/225 in the front and like 235/245 in the rear.

I am a big fan of saab factory wheels as far as looks, they just compliment the car's unique stlying so well... especially any 3 spoke type design.

especially on a ng900 or 9-3 this is the case, because of the unique shape of the car, it is not the standard generic sedan style...

for aftermarket the CH are my favorite, but I agree ... SO PRICEY!

but those wheels you posted Seth look kinda PIMP even though that is not usually my style...they are already gorwing on me! 8)

I have 225's all around, its what came on my Rims when I bought them.

I have eibachs, and I had some rubbing in the back, after coming over a hard bump, or on hard weight shifts like going over a curved railroad bridge. It was really bad When I had people back there.

two weeks ago, I took a hammer and gently tapped in the rear quarters, NO more rubbing. But I don't think you could go wider, with out it rubbing.

you know what could be really dope...is to just get your wheels refinished in something unique. That is what i might do if I continue to curb rash mine. :roll:

because those aero wheels you have Stromer as very very nice. "sick" even.

you could powdercoat them, polish them, chrome them... I don't especially like the chrome on these, but they are unique...just for an example. they are the same wheels I have but custom chromed. :shock:

those aeros look kinda sick...the chrome isnt too bling.

stromer-when i saw the side pic of those rims i hated em then i scrolled and holy polished lip! those owuld look pretty sick on the vig

if money ever allows (hopefully this winter...i wanna get my super aeros redone...a real polished lip and powdercoated instead of the damn duplicolor wheel paint...

That's why I like those wheels, because of the lip. I don't think they're too much. And on my black car I think they'd look good.

I do love my 17" 3-spokes. But they just don't do it for me like they used to. They will be good winter wheels though once I put on some all-seasons.

I guess if 225 is the max then that's all I can do. Bummer. I have 225's now and I have never had them rub in the back. So I'm going to take a closer look.

the rims on that vdub probably cost more than the car, they are more deepdish than a chicago pizza

nice rims, but not vdub at all, they should be on bmw/merc/lexus/jag, nothing else

Ok so I called the dealer to see what the max wheel width is on the car and he definativley told me from the WIS that the max is based on rim size. Here is what he told me.

16's ==== 235/50/16 (Max)
17's ==== 225/45/17 (max)
18's ==== 215 or 225/40/18 (max)

He did say he saw a 9-3 (2002) with rolled fenders and running 235/40/18's and lowered with Eibachs and the guy got alot of rubbing if people where in the back seat.

I don't think those wheels would be too much. But I still haven't found out what brand and model they are or if I can get them in my size. But at least I could get something similar. I'm curious about getting a polished lip for my car, I think it would look good.

I wish I could take some measurements on my car for wheel clearance, but yet again, my car is 130 miles away from me until thanksgiving break!!!!!!

Well these wheels are Axis Neo's. According to WheelMax.com they don't make them in a 5x110. But I did see these wheels. Not bad for $636 a set of 4.

And put them with these tires from tirerack.com which would be $370 for the set of 4:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...=SP+Sport+FM901&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=24WR8FM901&fromCompare1=yes&place=7

So this would be a good cheap way to go. There's free shipping on the wheels, and so with shipping on the tires it would probably be about $1050. I think this is decent for a set of 18" wheels and tires.

I'm still going to look for those Axis wheels though.

Seth, I have 225's all around and they rub like a mother. Rico and I rolled the fenders this summer and it helped a lot, but when there are people in back or I go over a big bump, they still hit. I think the key is he offset of the wheel. I'm not sure what the offset is for the BBS RK IIs, but I bet it exceeds what it is supposed to be for the 9-3.

Good luck!

Yeah it definatly has to do with the wheel offset. You and wyld have the same wheels, and you both rub. I have different ones and I don;t. I have some more research to do now about offsets.
