It seems that most everyone has a guilty pleasure / secret love for some hideious car out there; the car you'd never run out and buy, but would definitely rock if someone handed you the keys. I've always thought these were the ugliest trucks ever created, but I always find myself oogling over them on eBay, and wishing I had one, just for the "what the ___ is that piece of crap?" head-turning appeal. What's yours???

early 60's Ford Econoline pickup, or the Chevy Corvair ramp truck.

not really. it just doesn't look like it has the "hotrodable" appeal to it. The only one that looks like you could rod it pretty well is the ford. The chevy is one of those fan-cooled rear engine jobs, as is the VW. The Ford has a nice little compartment between the seats where the motor is, and it appears that you could fairly easily slap a small block in.

My old car:

1997 Taurus SHO. Revvy V8, torque steer, and the check engine light was basically always on.

also, the first/second generations had a better engine, with the same hideous taurus looks!

i'd never own one again, but when i was driving it, i sure didn't mind...

i'll agree. i always like the 2nd generation the best. my dad had a red one for a company car.
the V8 was pretty sluggish, the tranny wasn't too good (managed to blow the seals and lose the fluid and damage the torque converter...).

also had the cams welded before it sold...

Totally different cars bro....the Merkur and Cossie were based of the RWD Sierra/Escort platform of mid- 80's UK fame. ( 2.3 turbo four or Koln V6 engines, RWD or AWD)

The Taurus was a totally different platform, FWD, and the SHO had Yamaha built engines, 1st and 2nd gen were V6's, and the 3rd gen was a V8.

A dude at the last autocross of the season here in VT has a 1st gen SHO with a 5 speed and no mufflers....just headers on it....he glued some cones on the roof, welded bars on the steelies and turned it into an enduro racer....he did a few laps with it at the autocross til the property owner came down and told him to stop driving it as everyone was going deaf.

It was badass.

I still see those on a daily basis, that or the dodge monaco variant. I think NEPA must have been THE place those things were bought cause they are no where else anymore.

and on a size note they have the same shitty ZF trans as the 9000, though mounted in the same manner as it is in the Delorean... also, the Eagle premier not only shared the same engine & trans with the delorean as well as drive-line lay out (though reversed), it was also a Italdesign car, as was the Saab 9000 as well as the DMC DeLorean.

So the Saab 9000 actually has some indirect relation with the DeLorean, due to the Eagle premier if you want to get technical!
