The lease on my Jetta is up in a few months.

My best shot of getting another really good deal is to the turn the car into the exact same dealer and take another VW.

When I first heard about the VW CC I didn't quite get it. It was a cheaper MB CLS ripoff for more money than the Passat.

But I got up close to one at a mall display yesterday. The interior was gorgeous. The gas mileage on the 2.0T 6mt is stellar, 31highway is better than my Jetta.

It came standard with 12way power heated seats and needed almost no options to be considered loaded. It came out to be about $27k, not cheap but in some ways the car looks far more expensive than that.

It's not exactly my cup of tea on the outside but neither is the Jetta. It's quick too for such a large sedan.

So this will be my top pick when I go to the dealer. If they can put me into a GTI for less money than the CC, I will likely go that route.

This time though, I have the wife's blessing to get a 6mt :) The pics below are not of the top of the line $40k version, the base at $27k looked exactly like it.

92% of the content is all Passat. It's only about a $1000 increase when compared to a Passat. So you are not paying an absurd amount for the differences.

The front seats alone, which are unique to the CC are worth the extra money.

For a big car to have such a nice interior, 0-60 in the high 6's, and 31mpg on the highway,it's pretty intriquing.

I would not buy one. But if I can get an insane lease deal(My Jetta was $279, I got it for $129), I will gladly take home a 2.0T/6mt Sport.

Wow, that interior is beautiful.

Overall, I dig the car.
Yeah. That was the surprise for me. The two tone and details looked nice, but I assumed were from the fully kitted $40k 3.6....pass.

But no, it comes that way in the base Sport. The difference is leather-ette vs leather. I have the leather-ette in the Jetta and I could care less about it compared to spending extra for the genuine stuff.

The Sport vs the Comfort model of the CC is like a $7k difference. Just to get REAL leather, fancy headlights and auto dual zone climate control and an automatic trans. PASS.

I drove a CC when we first got them in a few weeks ago, they are a damn sweet ride, and this is coming from a guy who is hates VWs.

Girlfriend bought a new Jetta the other day. While she was signing the paperwork I was checking out the CC. The salesman threw me the keys and said go ahead and check it out. It handled very well for it's size. More importantly it didn't make me feel like i was crammed into a tiny car.

It has standard 17's. The 3.6L has standard 18's. The 3.6L in Europe has better gearing and close to 300hp, much quicker than the US version.

But the 3.6 is heavier, drinks a lot more fuel and costs a shitload more. If I were to buy one, I would do an APR stg3 on the 2.0T 6mt and it would be far quicker than the 3.6.

I like the CC, if I were in the market for a new car it would be high on my short list. VW has had some quality control issues in the past(the screws that held the tilt wheel handle to the steel shaft on my 04 GTI were missing, as in never installed!)so I'd have to wait for the next model year.

Here's some of what Clarkson has to say about the CC:

Further back still, we find a boot that is vast, and as we slam it we're left scratching our heads. Cavernous, well priced, good looking and nicely trimmed. So where's the catch? Apart from the municipal golf club handle.
Well it's simple, really. You can dress a VW Passat up in whatever you like in the same way that you can dress me up in whatever you like. But underneath I'm still the same clod-hopping, fat, wheezing, middle-aged man.
I guess I'm a little unclear on VW's concept here. Is this going to replace the Passat or is it just another sedan variation on the existing sedan.

It is not a replacement. The thing is modeled after the MB CLS, it is an E class redressed and sold at a premium. It is a styling exercise. The same situation for the CC.

The dealer I am leasing the Jetta from called me today. Guy wants to have big sales numbers for Feb. So he says he will make the numbers work so I can turn the Jetta in early since it has lower than the miles it should, an easy sell for them.

If the numbers work I should have a new 6mt Sport this weekend. The Jetta's small tank and shitty gas mileage coupled with the boring 2 pedals has gotten to me. The CC goes more 200 miles on a tank of gas.

I think black may be my first choice.

Sorry, fixed.

the seats look like the masrati quattroporte.
the rest of the car, looks like an intrepid.
they are selling very well down here in single-jewish-jetta-land. the lease deals must be amazing.
I was sold on the interior. The looks are ok.

The lease deals are 289 a month for an auto with $1000 down at a Nj dealer. But I am going to the dealer I am currently leasing from. Off the bat a 6mt should be 20 less a month and I get $500 in loyalty. My goal is $250 a month with 0 down.

that would be a crazy good deal on a sweet ride. i'd take it over the gti. the ride must be like a lexus on that thing. don't get me qrong, i dont like the looks but it does look like a very expensive car.

and 6 speed...thats cool

250 a month 0 down including tax? that'll be great.
i got 280 a month 0 down including the tax, and it was a real effort to make it happen. they basically applied the corrolla national offer to my scion.

I am not that worried. I have much more pull with this dealer as I already have a lease to return.

I speak very simple up front terms. "Make this deal and you can pull the car around, no need to test drive it, you have a sale." The last time I did that I got the Jetta at $129 even though the ad expired the week before and they only had "2 at this price".

GEE THIS THREAD LOOKS FAMILIAR!

Looks much like a one I started JUST LIKE THIS a long while ago.

Here is another shock. Jameson looking at another car purchase! OMG!

PS. I like the car, a lot! It's the looks version of a sleeper. Unexpected luxury as apposed to unexpected performance.

I would not say that, not a car purchase. I have a lease on a Jetta, the lease ends in a few months.

I am unhappy with some things about the car, if I can turn it in early and get something I like better, why not?

Of note, I like having a back up plan. It may be hard to work this deal on the CC. So my backup car is a 5dr 6mt GTI. The dealer wants $30 less a month for it and less down, so it may be easier to work down to my goal. I am going to try the CC first, then mention the GTI.

i don't understand why you need to lease a vw anything, having a perfectly good (if not superior) viggen parked in your house. a viggen is a fine commuting car that will do anything a leased vw can do.

why get into another lease? what does the vw do that the saab wont?
if the viggen needs repairing why not repair it?
if you dont want the viggen why not sell it?

surely the point of having a viggen is to enjoy a nice european sedan that moves with alacrity while still being comfortable. no? same thing that the vw does.

if you needed an suv for carrying stuff it makes sense to get that. if you want an elise to be a singular play toy it makes sense.

a vw and the viggen are such similar cars, whats the point?

There is no selling of the Viggen. I have too much invested in it, too much time, and the return on it would be pitiful(What $10-11k?)

First I tried running the Vig for 2 years as my only car. I tried it with all seasons and all that happened was some seriously bent 18" wheels. I also got a car with low miles that NEVER saw snow. I wanted to keep the miles low and the salt off.

But I tried 16" snows. Wow, what a differnece, no bent wheels. Still felt bad about the salt and the piling on of miles(20k in one year). Switching wheels and storing them can be a pain though.

So as an experiment I sold the snow set for $600 and bought a winter beater for the same $600. That way, no bent wheels, no salt, no switching wheels on the Vig.

I LOVED it.

I sold that beater for another beater, again, no money out of pocket.

But then I began working and seeing that the beater thing was an issue. I was over the whole beater thing but did not want to spend $10k on a used car.

On impulse I saw the Jetta advertised at $129. It sounded great, no worries, a 4dr car, an automatic(so I would not have to move it in the mornings) my first NEW car ever for a monthly payment that almost doesnt even feel like a payment.

I had never leased a car before.

I loved having a new car. Turn the key, no worries. The opposite of the beaters. Meanwhile I really enjoy the Viggen for the other half the year when its nice.

Now the Jetta, I am over the small gas tank, shitty mileage and automatic(have a house now, big driveway). I am able to have some pull and get a deal on another VW, no money down I hope. The monthly payment does not hurt me. Some people spend $300 a month on cigs and booze for example.

Is it a bit silly...maybe. I reallllllly wish I could come up with one car that I could love as much as the Vig, drive year round with no worries and not think it was super rare, yet rare enough to be interesting. I was tempted by the idea of an 08 STI' for $27k. It would do everything.

But then wait, my Vig has 59k, I likely have something absurd like 22-24k invested including the car($14k with 18k miles in 2005). Getting $12k for it does nothing for me, the trans rebuild at $1000's is barely broken in.

If someone walked up to me with $20k for it, yeah, it would be much easier to walk away from and find ONE car that works.

Can I lay this to rest now like I did with why I am not buying a house this year?

With how low prices are, last year I was tempted to pick up a 5dr. They aren't lookers though :) 3dr for looks, 5dr for practicality.

But I don't think I could leave it stock and I feel like the Viggen can be fragile when it comes to maintenance.

I love the get-in and forget it factor of the new VW. When you need to get to work in the morning that is so nice.
