Time to stop bashing the Ecotec?

Cliff Notes: upgraded turbo, IC, fuel, exhaust, clutch and a tune nets 500whp on an otherwise-stock '08 Cobalt SS.

Pretty impressive! It's just too bad that Saab got the shaft on this motor.

Note: This is the LNF motor aka the Direct Injected Ecotec that every bleepin' car got except Saab (though that's changing). The Saab 9-3 got the LK9 which doesn't have:
* a twin-scroll turbocharger
* cam-driven high pressure gasoline direct injection fuel system
* dual camshaft continuously variable valve timing
* sodium-filled stainless steel Inconel exhaust valves
* low-friction cast aluminum pistons with oil squirters
* forged steel crankshaft
* forged steel connecting rods
* cast stainless steel exhaust manifold

LOL, guy broke into the 11's on the stock turbo.

So much bang for the buck.
Instead we'll just bash your new sig. Nice job editing out the black and white behind the letters. Aren't you a programmer?
Power is one thing but seeing if the Ecotec 2.0 can reliably hold up to that kind of power is another. I really was impressed with the Cobalt TBSS' that I test drove but I just could not get over the rest of the car being too cheap but that is the price to pay for so much R&D on the drivetrain/chassis.

I edited it out in a draft and I didn't like the look.

But for you - here ya go.

i've been frustrated by this for years.

Say what? :lol:

That's my scuba intake.

how much does it matter if the damn thing is putting 250hp per liter!?
of course reliabilty will suffer!

Well, yes but what would be the point if you had a F1 engine-like tear down schedule? I am sure they are perfectly fine at that level of horsepower but if you can't enjoy it for more than a couple thousand miles at a time, what is the point?

Uhhh, F1 engine-like performance! Duh!

...obvi......

250bhp / litre is better than ChampCar output, and getting up on F1 output (forced induction though....). That's nuts.

I'll be the first to mention it, but all that stuff is available through the GM Competition catalogue - won't it all bolt up?

Or schlock a wrecked CSS powerplant into a 9-3SS and standalone it balls to the wall - mounting points on the block should more or less match up.

I would go over to Saab Central and see all the people saying they're doing this and that (9-3SS trans in 9000 .... what??) but I get a headache from all the heresay and the 'WHATS THIS WEIRD VIBRATY SOUND WHEN I GO FAST ON BUMPY ROADS' threads.

Best.

Isn't the problem the engine management that the 9-3 Ecotec is different than what everyone else is using? And that the GM cars can use HPTuner to easily tune... and there is a lot less support for the Saab T8...?
