Met up with NickTurbo900 yesterday to give his '96 9000 Aero a "quick" exterior once-over. The paint on it has definitely seen better days (lots of random, deeep, scratches, etc) but I was really pleased with how it turned out. More importantly, Nick seemed happy with it.

-Wash
-Mothers claybar
-Meguiars #105 on LC Yellow pad
-Meguiars #205 on LC Orange and White pads
-Poorboys World Black Hole
-Collinite Insulator Wax #845
-Poorboys World Trim Restorer

Pics!

Befores: Theses pretty well represent the condition of the paint on the entire car.

Little 50/50 action on the hood, where the paint is showing some serious wear after 240k+. In hindsight I kind of wish I had done it on another panel, but oh well!

And afters! Unfortunately no outside shots, since this went to well after dark.

Id say a good polish (not neccesary high cut) would work with a coat of wax now and again. I usually hit the 9k once a year thoroughly in the spring, with a good coat of something durable in the fall, if not more. the bimmer gets about the same, but its driven much less. Regular cleaning with good non stripping products and sponges/mitts would be key, as well as environmental and storage factors like stig mentioned. My 9k needs it pretty bad at this point, doesn't really bead much if at all anymore and has some swirls. The 335 looks like it was waxed a few months ago minus some swirling from washing/general junk although the last time i gave the exterior a thorough detailing was right before Carlisle last year.

Stock Super Aeros with a worn set of already moutned and balanced Vredstein Quatracs til I can get some rubber and we get some traction. Its Mud Season here.

Come real spring / summer I might pull those two tones and try those for this and try the 98 cse wheels on the SPG. I'm open to suggestion as well.

Good work on the 9000 Aero. Black is great when clean, but it is such a massive pain in the ass to keep up on. It shows everything! I remember losing sleep over the shit when I had my old black 2003 9-5 Aero. I'd have a buffer out every few weeks. I hated it. Good work on NickTurbo900's car!

Wheel bolts came in today, got them off Ebay, 20 of them for 40$ shipped, Mercedes-Benz fitment, 14x1.5x40mm, taper/cone fit. Will get the wheels on this weekend and hopefully the rocker panels too and update with some real photos for everyone!

Brian does great work, more patience then I have (or any of you I suspect!!!)

We are talking real attention to detail and top quality products. Thanks again.

Right then, lets get caught up. Did this '95 900SE (the car formerly known as the track car) a while ago. Same process as Nicks 9000.

(I didn't wash it beforehand because, at that point, it was just an experiment to determine if it was worth the effort of detailing the car. As we can see, it definitely was!)

Then yesterday I finally got a chance to work on my brothers' '06 9-3 Aero Combi. I went over the exterior in the fall, so it wasn't too bad (winter definitely took its toll, however) but the interior was my main focus. He doesn't have the time or space to clean his car, and it definitely showed.

Exterior:
Wash
Mothers Claybar
Meguiars 205 on white LC pad
Poorboys World Trim Restorer
Collinite 945 Insulator Wax

Interior:
Thorough shampoo with 303 Carpet Spot Cleaner
Pressure wash floor mats
Trans-Mate Leather cleaner on pretty much everything
303 Aerospace Protectant
Some compressed air, and a little magic....

Exterior befores:

Amazing work man! Car doesn't even look the same (9-3 combi).

You have inspired me to do an inside/out of my car when I get home from school. How long would you say it took to do the combi?

So.... over a year later... and many years overdue... this happened today.

Wash/clay
M105 on LCC Yellow
M205 on LCC Orange
M205 on LCC White
Meg's Swirl Remover 2.0 on LCC White
PB's Black Hole
Collinite 845

Other odds and ends include Goo Gone, paint thinner, and acid wheel cleaner.

It should be noted that this car is very much a work in progress. There are places that I didn't really spend much time, for instance the hood that's being replaced.

Collinite 945 Insulator Wax: Awesome! Waxed the STi last week with that stuff, and always wax wheels with it before they go on for the season. Makes Pay and Spray car washes take off all the crud.

Looks like some good detailing!

Met up with Nick again yesterday to bring the paint back to life on his awesome Tally Red SPG. He had to show me rust on this car, I couldn't find any on my own...

I didn't do anything with the SPG panels because it occurred to me that I don't know how they're finished...

Wash
Mothers claybar
Meguiars 205 on LCC orange and then white pads (105 + yellow on roof)
Collinite 945
PB's trim restorer
Meguiars Quickwax on wheels
Meguiars tire shine (forget the name now...)
