My impression of the "Tea Partiers" is that they are fighting for the right to live their lives in an unfettered way, fighting for their freedom. They don't want subsidies or "social spending", even though some of those that made such signs are on the lower end of the socioeconomic stratum and would, on paper, benefit. They are opposing the extremely worrying destructive fiscal spiral their federal government has been flying through for the past decade.

Truly, in no other country is the uneducated class so smart!

I like to play a game when they show Teabaggers on TV. It's called "Count the old people". I can never seem to count them all before the clip is over!

Its hilarious when some reporters with actual balls go to these things and ask "What is it you're fighting for?", and the result is typically a long rant about government spending and how it's socialism/communism/fascism (take your pick, they dont know the difference between the three), and then the reporter asks "Oh, so you mean we should shut down Medicare and Social Security?", which results in ANOTHER rant about how they paid into those their whole lives and they need it and Obama is going to take those away too!

Other cases, you can replace "old people" with "veterans" and "SS/Medicare" with "Tricare and Department of Defense budget" and you'll get the same response. That's what's hilarious about mainstream "Libertarianism". They hate government spending except when its the stuff that's an actual strain on our budget and especially when its stuff that benefits them.

Umm...I was in DC for the supposed large protest last fall and some of the comments made were pretty ridiculous. I'm not saying everyone making the comments fall into the uneducated category but they definitely did not understand what they were protesting (like people were still carrying around, "Is Obama even American?" signs).

IDK, there's a reason why Fox News is the most watched news program in the US...and it's probably linked to why people are participating with these "tea parties."

This is my favorite tea party (saab content)...

My problem is that most of the tea baggers are arguing from ignorance. They don't know what the problem is, but they think it's "this." It's how things like the "death panels" got rolling, which is not at all based in reality.

This gets back to the TED talk video I posted on the dangers of science denial. It's ok to question is the president a natural born citizen, but when his birth certificate is presented that's where it ends. These people believe what they want to believe and it's seriously dangerous to encourage these thought patterns.

When I didn't know what the Tea Party-ers were I did some innernette searching. After doing a bit of reading, their ideas seem to work in theory (just like communism lawl). But when they play that old game called telephone, "Obama is trying to socialize the health care system" turns into "Obama is a terrorist, Muslim, communist, constitution hating "black" man."

An excellent example of socialism is the nuclear family. Let's say you have a family of 3:

The family is doing financially well, given that the father and mother are both employed. Despite the fact that their child cannot work (and thus has no economic worth) they still care for him. If the mother was in a disabling car accident and lost her economic worth, the father would not only continue caring for the child, but would also take care of the mother. He does this because he believes they are still important, and because it is the right thing to do.
Ah crap! I guess many of us are socialists.

I'll metion again that I have a very, very right wing "anti socialism on any level" co-worker.

This co-worker is adimatly against socialised healthcare due to disagreeing with his dollars subsidizing others more than they already are. I really don't have a problem with that, those are his views, fine. What I do have a problem with is that he doesn't realize we have our own mico-socialized healthcase system going on right now.

This guy misses a ton of work, he is a frequent flier to the doctor, and he is glad to point out that he foots his own bill. What he doesn't seem to connect in his head, is that our health care premiums on our company high deductable health plan is going up due to our usage being in the 150th percentile. Healthier individuals like myself who rarely need medical attention get to foot the difference between his medical bills and our (lack of) medical bills.

This does not resonate as 'socialist' with him on any level.

If you believe Healthcare is part of necessary pooling then congress needs to pass a Constitutional Amendment granting that right, and forcing everyone to participate. There is a proper process for doing things that are not allowed in the Constitution. The way the house and senate just did it is not constitutional, and bypasses the authority of the states. Yes there are several other Federal regulations that infringe on states rights, but there hasnt been one big enough to really open peoples eyes to what is going on until now.

I have no problem with a constitutional amendment forcing healthcare insurance on everyone, I do have an issue with the federal government overstepping its bounds, Bush did it, Clinton did it, Obama is doing it, its turning into "King George rules from Washington" very quickly.

Fair enough. I agree ultimately an amendment would be needed.

As for administrations, dollars to donuts on the fact that the vast majority of presidential administrations have made such steps to increase the Fed in power and/or size. It seems like weather a Democrat or Republican; the Feds influence only continues to grow.

The almost rhetorical question that such an observation brings about is why..?

It is easy to play to special interests and give them some big $$$ when it only costs the individual a couple of dollars. The problem is it snowballs and then you are spending many thousands on undesirable programs.

The American situation is particularly concerning due to the high deficits already being run and the idea to ramp up spending dramatically. Nobody seems very interested in making a hard decision so this situation will probably deteriorate much further.

Interesting dialogue.

Something that bothers the teabaggers and non teabaggers is that the government is supposed to be working for the people and not the other way around.

A co-worker lives in Mass and works in NH. I live and work in NH. He is having $600 witheld from his tax return to pay for RomneyCare. It is an involuntary contribution that he has to pay because he has good healthcare at the utility where we work. He was like "WTF, I'm fighting this" until he found out that thousands have fought it and lost. His only option is to pay $600 or drop his benefits at work and enroll in RomneyCare.

So, he's being "fined" for having healthcare and can be fined for not having healthcare. It's just another way of redistributing the wealth in the "Common Wealth" of Massachusetts.

Even Whoopi Goldberg (Caryn Johnson) complained about all the ways she's being over taxed with an outburst of "get off of me Obama".

Mass is an interesting case...Constitutionally, Mr. Romney was legal in getting this passed, the people of the state seemed to want it. However as with most socialist endeavors, it never turns out as advertised, always has cost overruns, and just plain doesnt work. Your buddy is paying a "tax" because he works in that state, if you want to do business in Mass you go along with their rules, pretty normal. The way the Founding Fathers envisioned it was if Mass did something "stupid" like this (my words) then the people that live there have the option to move to NY or PA, and companies can relocate etc...It keeps states doing what is the best for their citizens. Then in order to prevent collusion between states or tariffs between states, the Federal Goverment was given the "Commerce Clause", granting them power to prevent such things from cropping up. This is the clause used to push all this crap thru and attempt to call it Constitutional.

Now Socialism as a concept is awesome, but everyone from The Pilgrims to China that has tried it has failed, the only way to make it kinda work is enforcing laws with fear, torture, KGB type rules. The basic inherent laziness of people (or call it a sin nature if your religious) prevents socialism from working....and always will....but its a great idea.

The economics of Health Insurance is something even the experts cannot agree on.

A very interesting show worth listening too: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=111173038

Both of these guys lobby for reform, but they both have good methodology behind it too. If you are intellectually honest with yourself it's hard not to agree with either view. The rub is what is really right?

I'm well aware of the "Laffer Curve" in theory. I was hoping you had some links to some actual, empirical data of when this has actually happened. I'm not trying to be an ass here, I'm just looking for actual data to back that up.

Tea Party Infiltrators -
Lions and Tigers and Bears…
Oh My!!!

Many have asked about the news that there may be "infiltrators" at tea parties around the nation. A website (crashtheteaparty.org) was recently set up. The creator, though he tried to hide his identity, has been outed; his name is Jason Levin, and he's a middle school teacher in Beaverton, Oregon. He's on record saying that you might see some of his team in Nazi uniforms at your local tea party pretending to be racists and other offensive characters. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy doesn't it? And one has to ask the question; if tea partiers are racist, anti-Semitic homophobes, and it's so obvious, why does he need to plant people who pretend to be those things at your tea parties? Ah…leftist logic and tactics…there is no way to understand their twisted thoughts. But you do need to know what the left is up to.

And by the way, if you'd like to let Mr. Levin's school district know what you think of his behavior, and his potential influence on public school students in Beaverton, Oregon, you can contact them here. And you can reach the Principal at his school, Mr. Zan Hess, at this number: (503) 524-1345. If you choose to contact them, in direct contrast to Mr. Levin's behavior, please be polite. Remember, just because he's exposed himself publicly as a vile, indecent human being who will stoop to Nazi symbolism, and the promotion of racism and bigotry to silence those with whom he disagrees, doesn't mean everyone in the school district is bad.

I'm Calling RIGHT NOW. The busy signal you get will be because of me.

BIGFURHAT UPDATE

I just spoke to a very nice lady, at the above number, who admitted to developing a migraine over this, she said calls can be directed to

MAUREEN WHEELER - HEAD OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

503 591-4360

UPDATE 2:

Ms. Wheeler's office confirms that they are being bombarded with calls, so it is difficult to speak directly with her. A very nice woman wrote my questions down and said she would forward them. I'll let you know if there is any answer.

My question was a simple one.

Teachers sign contracts when hired by schools. These contracts include ethics clauses. Does admitting to organizing a conspiracy to infiltrate a constitutionally protected protest in order to slander the protesters by posing as a nazi, racist, and homophobe, using hate speech, violate the ethics clause, and if so, when will Mr. Levin be terminated?

There are only a few ways one could answer that question. Anything short of saying that Levin will be terminated does not bode well for the Beaverton, Oregon middle school district.

Stupid goes both ways I guess. I do wonder where leftist idiots would get Nazi uniforms from? Maybe their own closet?

Nice try back at you, I dont entertain any conversation with anyone who cant show me the same respect I show them. Its called the Tea Party, poeple involved are not "Teabaggers". Funny how the a particular party is supposed to be tolerant, except when someone disagrees right?
