Strange coolant leak

O.K Saaber's, Try this one on.

My car has been up on jacks for the last two weeks, reasonably high as well,(new clutch install).

I noticed when I took the car of the jacks and put her back on the wheels again that I had coolant on my floor.

I got under the car again and traced it back to this strange "elephants trunk" that comes out of the fire wall just below the shifter linkages and near the rear engine mount.

I took the car for a test drive and the leak appears to have stopped now.

Does anyone know what this "elephants trunk" does ?

Had the same problem, it's more than likely your heater core. Start the car with the heater off, look for leaks and then turn the heater on and check again. Chances are with the heater on your leak should increase and if it does, its probably the heater core.

research said it was 9 times out of ten the seals on the heater core not the core itself but the same amount of labor none the less good luck

When I was stuffing around with my gearbox install I did move the heater hoses quite a bit. Trying to get to things like the shifter linkages and clutch cable.

What's the chances that I just disturbed an o-ring and now that everything is back together it will be ok.

Or is that wishfull thinking :(

check the hoses for leaks. if no leaks but still leaking take interior apart and check seals first before replacing heater core. seals are really cheap.

I just got back from a 45 min drive with the heater on full blast for most of the way.
I jacked it back up and checked the "trunk" again and its as dry as a bone.
No coolant loss.

MMMmm...... I wonder if the Saab gods fixed this one "on the house"

I'm going to keep my eye on it for the next couple of days

Did you refill coolant with the car on jacks? If so, if it overflowed at all, when you put the car back down, coolant overflow may have flowed out. I've noticed similar issues when I've topped off a car on stands. When I level it, some coolant (and in some cases small tools/nuts/bolts that I dropped) rolls on out

I think I must of disturbed the seal on these two o-rings whilst trying to re-install my shifter linkages and clutch cable.
I did bend these heater hoses quite alot, come to think of it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Changing the core or seals sounds like the last job I want to be doing.

Thanks Guys :)

I am currently having the same problem within the last couple weeks or so. Planning on swapping out the heater core when I get a chance to grab one from the u-pull-it. Took me a while to narrow it down because it only was happening with the heater. Currently i pulled the fuse for the ACC, luckily it is like 75* in Pittsburgh right now.
