Storm area registration/title?

A car I'm looking at spent time in the Houston area. Carfax comes back clean, as does the Autocheck. However the Autocheck gives a warning about it being registered at a time/place where FEMA was involved during for a storm. (Hurricane Rita?)

This reg/title serves mostly as a warning, yes? Perhaps a suggestion to have it inspected? Assuming this was Rita almost 5 years and 60,000 miles ago, who would be best qualified to do a flood inspection?

Really, you need to look under carpets and the undercarriage for any signs of rust or water damage. Any reputable and decent mechanic that will be able to pick up any of the basic signs of storm damage in that regard with a pre-sale inspection. Another thing is to look for signs of paint work in terms of any panels that have more or less orange peel than surrounding panels, color match, paint imperfections such as runs or fish eyes, and any uneven panel gaps.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry a whole lot if there is just a cautionary warning on one of the car history reports but the rest are just fine. This must mean an impending purchase is near! ;)

Thanks. Yes we're very close. It's down to 2 cars. Waiting on more photos of one and a decent price reduction on the other. Both silver, I'm over that black one.
Once you go black, you never go back... Oh wait, it's too late for us.
