Hey there all,
I just got back from a few days away at Anna Bay, near Newcastle N.S.W.
My family has been going there for years.
Anna bay is the beginning(or end) of Stockton Beach. Back in the days of WW2 the vast sand dunes were bomb testing grounds and there is still remains of anti tank concrete blocks which now mark out car parks.
Rumor also has it that the sand in Hawaii came from Stockton beach.

It feels like you are out in the Sahara when you get out in the back country, the sand dunes seem never ending.
When I was younger (and fit) we would rip the dunes up with our motorbikes with paddle rear tyres.

There is also a cool ship wreck down the other end of the beach (1 1/2 hour drive on sand).

Here is a couple of pics

Here's a pic of the ship wreck (not my pic):icon_frown:

This is info from wiki :

The MV Sygna was a 53,000 t (52,163 long tons) Norwegian bulk carrier that ran aground during a major storm on 26 May 1974. Attempts to refloat the ship were unsuccessful. The ship broke its back and the stern now lies off Stockton Beach where it is slowly decaying in the elements.[24] The bow section was eventually towed to Taiwan and broken up. The ship is approximately 8.8 km (5.5 mi) from the southern end of the beach and usually easily visible from the Stockton breakwall. On a clear day the ship is easily visible from both ends of the beach.

There is also a "tin city" in the middle of the sand dunes. It amazing driving thru the dunes and then out of nowhere there is a corrugated iron city.
Parts of Mad Max 1 was also filmed there .
The sand moves that much that they constantly have to dig out there shacks.
