someone mentioned the need for some special tool to replace the brakes (rotors and pads) on my 900se

i haven't heard any mention of this at all....but that happens

is there some special tool? or is that something from older saabs and not the gm saabs?

you need a large allen key to pull the caliper carriers off, a t30(iirc) to pull the rotors off (assuming you still have the torx screws holding the rotors on), and a flathead screwdriver to pop out the pad retaining clips off.

thats it, iirc

The allen key for the front caliper carriers was 7mm. Not large but somewhat not standard.

I just did it last month and it didn't take anything special. If you have a good set of sockets, pliers, torx and that 7mm allen you'll be gold

No speacial tool as stated.

5mm hex key for the rotor set screw.
7mm hex key for the sliding pins
10mm hex key for the caliper carrier bracket.
1 flat blade from prying off the spring retainer
9mm wrench for the bleed valves
large pipe wrench or c-clamp to compress piston.

Doesn't take long at all to do the brakes. I did this today along with the major service on a NG900 to prep it for sale. These are the only tools you'll need.......that is unless the rotor set screw strips and you'll then need an EZ out.
