the engine is the only valuable part worth more than i paid for the whole car to some bimmer dork, and thankfully it still runs. it also has upgraded brakes fuel pump and new parts everywhere. the body/frame of this car was the weakest link. my friend bought another 325 to make up for crashing this one for 500 and we'll be combining the two in to a sweet running auto. the new one (which is on the way) is red, has been garage kept, and has less miles. we'll be swapping in this engine and building a turbocharger setup to run on Megasquirt. looking for 300 whp. on an M20 engine this shouldnt be hard.

yeah, he is used to his awd wrx. i drove the car with him in the passenger seat and i htink he got the wrong idea from the way i was driving.... our intent is to build a fun mostly track-use car and learn how to build a solid engine and use tuning software. I'd like to tune my Vig myself eventually and this should give me a good start i think.

dude calm down just a sarcastic response stemming off of the previous post would you like an edit to "dude driving hits tree=fail?" ...

it sucks your buddy wrecked (hopefully he was fine and any passengers) the car prior to you even driving let alone on the first day, is sweet though that he bought you a new and luckily with an e30 swapping stuff around is like playing with legos. Turbo m20's are sweet and can stand a lot of power just make sure you get the thick ass half metal head gasket 'cause once you hit 300+ in those they tend to go out routinely buddy of mine is edit: 343hp 420tq at the wheels (seen the dyno) running megasquirt and his is still finiky with head gaskets.
Sure you already know check e30tech lots of build threads even boxed ITB's and turbo, 666 fabrication has probably the best craftsmanship for turbo manifolds and intakes for these, though they aren't cheap.
Diyautotune, is who i went through to get my megasquirt setup for the 2002, pretty much the best price you can get

You bought yourself the only Non SAAB I've ever really worked on. By which I mean, rebuilt from the ground-up hahaha.

Me and a bud bought a 500$ 325 ES (wouldn't have done it retrospect). All kinds of fun stuff on those cars... rusty gas tanks being my favorite. We sold that car at a significant loss for the time we put into, but man was it fun putting 30k on it in a year and half!

I love them, will have another, if you get it back to Maine one of the TSL'ers local here is also president of the Local BMW CCA chapter, he'd love to see it too I'm sure.

yes its the 2.7 eta with a 731 head 323 cam i intake manifold and throttle body. the car also has a walbo 255 recently put in a new heavy duty clutch new wheel bearings a short throw shifter and some fuel/timing chip
its supposed to be putting out approx 200 hp as is

Sweet engine. If your goal is 300whp I hope you are planning a whole E36 drivetrain swap (minus the engine, of course, since the M20 is fine for 300+) but the E30 diff, halfshafts, and tranny will blow up very quickly. Most E30 guys seem to think 250 or so is about the max you can run reliably through those components...my buddy and I have been working on E30's for close to 6 years now (tuned 325iX and tuned 325iS, before that a 325e) and I would say that it's the truth.
