Pop the glass off. There are 4 screws that hold the inner trim ring together and a couple small tabs that hold the outside part on.
Side View Mirror Housings
So, I've 'inherited' my dad's 9-3 and it has some issues. It's missing the one bumper grille, but I'm ordering one of those soon. And it's got some paint chipping in the front. But my current issue is the driver's side mirror, which before we got it had the mirror housing replaced. And it was just replaced with the paintable one.
So how do I go about taking it off? And how should I be painting it?
I obviously want to get the same 'matte' finish like the other side view mirror.

why not take the other lower bumper grille off and attach some mesh from home depot. cheaper and it'll look nice

How difficult is it to get the front bumper off?
Two large bolts and some wire and smaller fender liner bolts.... bumper comes off in under 30 minutes.
You don't even need to take the screws off. Just pop off the glass, flip the mirror in a little bit, and press the tabs to release the housing. You have to flip the mirror in partway because there's a tab that's hidden behind the hinge. You can only see it when the mirror is flipped in.Pop the glass off.
