my upper idler pulley sheered off the engine block tonight...didn't know that could happen.

Just got the car towed home. I'm not sure exactly what it is that failed. I can see exposed threads from where the bolt drives into the engine block on the upper passenger side.....oh and the idler pulley is MIA.....

I need to take some stuff apart and see exactly what broke. Has anyone else ever run into this sorta thing?

Sucks..........I've been through this twice now.

You'll need an entirely new upper alternator bracket. Four bolts hold that bracket to the block. You'll need to remove the tensioner itself from the bracket and then remove the upper alternator bolt and loosen the lower and swing the alternator out of the way. That is all there is to it. Re-install in reverse order with a new upper idler.

thanks Nahum...It appears one of the bolts connecting to the timing cover ripped the threads out of that section. My future bracket will have only 3 bolts to mount up to...oh well, I'm not about to pull the entire timing cover off to replace it.
