Expect a glut in the 9-5 A pillar market.

Good news for those of us with second hand Polar White 9-5 Aero's with horrific A pillar cigarette burns.

 

I know a certain polar white Aero that fits that age range... I'm calling the stealership on Monday!

 

I was gonna offer to mail you one after SOC, but then learned they are different after -02 and the one's I've got do not fit.

 

...and according to Saab, do not stay put in a crash

 

yep just saw the letter for my mom and sister's 9-5's

 

ya, i read it for my mom's 9-5... basically, if you hit your head on it, it could cause injury.... no fucking shit....

probably some frivolous lawsuit from someone...

 

Exactly what I was thinking. No shit stuff comes loose in a crash!

Know what else can cause an injury in a head on accident? Everything!

 

Got them on my 05 Aero and they seem harder than the old ones. Guess they just need to stay in place better. Almost looks like they were originally for another car and made to work with the 9-5.

 

Got letters for both of my parents '04 Aeros, been doing them on the newer cars for a little over a month now.

 

ugh it feels like ive done 9 million of these god damn things they just take up space in your trash bucket

I could do a pseudo scientific test comparing the 06 to 99 A-pillar

I put in a boost gauge on my 99 9-5 a couple of years ago with the Speedparts Apillar trim. My wife went ape & made me remove it.
While taking it out, I ripped the fabric & replaced the entire a pillar.

Now getting to the point, If Saab lets me keep the recalled pillar from my 2006 9-5 I could do a test to see how much force they need to deform.
Ie hit them with a hammer & see how much work it take to make a dent.
I could do the same test on my old 99 pillar to see the difference.
Anyone got a more "scientific test" methodogy to follow.?

Ah, didnt know that. The one we got in the mail said 02-05.

 

We just got our letter last week. Anyone know how the newer, safer ones look? You say "squishier", that says to me, bulkier, and perhaps uglier...

 

all they did to the a-pillars were add a couple peices of "stratigicly" placed foam on the inside of the pillar. theres no visual differances looking at them

 

ya i just got my letter last week it didn't really explain much. just something about interior safety or something.

 

I got the letter yesterday... I imagined a huge 4" foam pad lol

 

i just went to the dealer yesterday and i got new a-pillars for free. they were going to be replaced any way due to burns in the driver side. it was nice to get a freebie new a pillar set

 

You people should stop smoking......as long as you don't get into a crash.

 

Most pointless recall ever. They should recall my car and replace it with a padded room since I can get hurt in a car accident.

At least I can try to see if they can give me a new badge for free.

 

The '06, '07, and '08 got the same type of recall. We got a letter for our '08. I agree, they could have saved money from that one. I'm sure something will get destroyed when the bags go off. Still gonna hurt when the crap in back torpedoes to the front.

 

The only difference between the original a-pillar trim and the new ones are that they took a few pieces of foam padding and stuck them to the back side of the a-pillar trim so that if you have a crash and hit your head, it wont hurt... as bad.
