heres a good one, this is the notchback naturally:

VIN: YS3ACxxxxxxxxxxxx
Manufacturer: Saab Automobile AB

Gear box: 3-Speed Automatic
Engine type: B202 16V

iirc, the finland plant is where all the convertibles were assembled, makes sense they'd make the notchback there.

Every Saab I have ever owned has been from Trollhattan but one. My 99 was a Belgian car. That's why it rusted away. They put the paint on over wet primer on those cars.

it's cheaper to finance the automatic than it is to take a month off work to have my shoulder repaired when the only serious problem I was having was when I was driving.

I could have kept looking, but it was one of those "I need a car NOW and this one is pretty damn good" things...

Lame, you can't even read the numbers off the top of your head?

Y is a Northern Europe
S3 - Saab
A - 900
T - 900 Turbo

Now let me guess the rest of your vin...

3 - 3 door
5 - 5-speed manual
L - 16 vT
J - 1988 model year
3 - Arlov Sweden manufacture

so

YS3AT35LxJ3016325

where x is a random check digit which has a mathematical function behind it, I can calculate it but don't feel like it.

im thinkin they must have built all the oddball cars there, the low production ones, know what i mean?

Paul
i thought i had heard once that all the spg's and verts were built in the same place, now certainly more cars were also built there, but i thought the spgs and verts were all built in the finland plant. now of course theres already an exception with deloreans spg so who really knows.

and jameson - the viggens were contracted, i guess thats the right word for it, to the same people that make the porsche boxters. just something intersting my father told me about once.

Valmet in Uusisaupunki (or something like that) was a joint venture to build Saabs in Finland in the 96 days. Eventually it shifted to convertibles only, then a few small runs, now makes Boxsters.

Finland was convertibles and notchbacks only (because basically it is a convertible with a solid roof)....
Does the notch have the same wept windshield and larger frame rails that a conv. has???? Didn't think so...:-D Really a notch is a 2 door version of a 4 door, the convertibles really had a lot more things that are different compared to any other c900 than what meets the eye, and the notch is certainly NOT a solid top c900 conv.!

Just nit-picking...

It's more like a 3 door than a four door. But yeah the drop top has a very stonger floor and a sheet of metal behind the back seat. Paul, that metal behind the back seat might be an idea to throw into the notch rocket. It being a notch back, the behind the seat action, and Scions subframe brace would make it stiff as a monkey in the viagra lab.
