Oh please let it be true... I always said that getting out of rally was one of Saab's biggest mistakes.

How awesome would it be too? Saab started out and got their name through rallying... Now it's like they're starting over on a clean slate and possibly re-creating history! It would be great publicity and is MUCH needed.

Great to hear that they're getting back to tradition.
Awesome!
sweet
Thats awesome but how feasible is it for saab to compete? Subaru pulled out because of financial issues and they have been competing for as long as the competition has been around. Hopefully things work out but i just don't see saab being able afford something like this. I was a die hard wrc fan but this current season has really put me off. No real competition for Loeb or Citroen so things are getting pretty boring. Hopefully with mini and saab coming in to the fold, things will liven up a bit.

The new rules and regulations are designed to reduce the costs of operating a WRC team. Plus if they share development costs with Mini(BMW) they'll spend less.

That. In any way, it'll be awesome!

That is true, i didn't think of that. I guess a saab and or mini rally car will be able to compete with the Fiesta and DS3. I would love to see Subaru get back in to the scheme of things. I think I'm just tired of seeing ford and citroen. What ever happens, having more manufacturers will make the sport better.

Check your facts there. Subaru joined the WRC in 1989, before their wins in the mid 90s'Subaru was pretty much just another Japanese brand with somewhat boring cars.

The WRC started in 1973, replacing the International Championship of Manufacturers (ICM) and the European Rally Championship. SAAB was one of the winningest brands on the ICM.

LOL, i was waiting for someone to call me out on that. After i posted i read it and realized what i said was wrong but i was too lazy to change it. You are 100% right, I guess what i really meant to say was, when you think rally you think Subaru. If a company like that was having trouble affording a rally program how would saab do any better?

Again like Jay said, i really didnt think about the downsizing etc going on at the moment. I certainly hope Saab can regain that competitive edge they once held in rally.
A LOT of things have to happen before serious rallying can even be considered. This is at best extremely low on their list of priorities.

First:
-promote and sell 9-5
-promote and sell 9-4x
-promote and sell 9-5 Combi
-design, test, promote, and sell next gen 9-3 in sedan, coupe, vert, and hatch form
-reach break even point ~ 85-100K cars/year
-turn profit
-design, test, promote, and sell 9-2
-make money hand over fist
-start thinking about halo projects
-rallying
-Sonett 4
-building the super halo Aero X (obvi a next gen/updated version)
-and so on.
See less See more
i dont know... victor mueller went formula 1 racing before:

-promoting his product
-designing, testing, promoting, selling his next project
-reaching break-even
-turning a profit
etc etc

yeah but that was with Russian mafia money. have you seen the SUV they are coming out with? are they serious? saab is in the real world.
haha awesome i would like to take partial credit for this haha, at the new 9-5 training session for the north east back in June, a head up guy from Saab was asking every one what they would like to see from Saab in the future. I raised my hand a told them they need to get back into rally cause thats what made this company. my 10sec of fame i guess haha
