Does anyone know what the date is for the Saab Festival in Sweden next year (2007)?

Thanks!

Our saab club is going to be booking a group trip like we did for the last one. Saab recognizes that we attend and do special things for us ;) If you do really want to go then i will let you know when we have more details and you can join the group.

Can you e-mail me from the about page on my website saabvideos.com today so I can stay in touch?

I do want to know how you are managing to "book a trip" without having dates. Don't hotels, etc. and airlines need to have dates for booking?

My family is Norwegian/American - my father's mother was 100% Norwegian and though my father was born in the US, he was raised in Norway, both my brother and I were baptised (spelling?) in Norway and we generally make a trip over at least once a year. Right now I live in New Hampshire, go to school in Maine and own a house in Norway!

Cooper,

This is interesting.

If you live in New Hampshire, pay rent or own, travel to Maine for school full-time, how do you maintain your own house only once a year in Norway? Someone must be paying you a lot of money to be able to cover annual home ownership & maintence costs in Norway, plus own 2 Saabs that are highly turned in the states, plus go to school for a Master's degree.

If I do the right calculations, that's probably somewhere close to $150,000 a year just in expenses.

The house in NH belongs to my parents as does the house in Norway (its been passed down through the family) - I rent an apartment in Maine and go to school full time here. My father is over in Norway more often than I and when he isnt there to maintain the house - family who still lives over there looks after it.

Im a professional mariner and though I only work the summers (due to school), I pull in a decent chunk of change during the summers. I was actually offered a full time job upon graduation (not really full time, 3 weeks on 3 weeks off) that will do more than pay my bills and support my habbits!

As for the cars - the NG was purchased back when I was in highschool, I had half the money for it then ($7500 w/58k on the clock) and my parents picked up the rest - which I was to repay the following summer. Since then, its just been maintaining/upgrading when the need arises and putting in a few performance things here and there; now she's a stage 4 monster.

The SPG I just purchased at the beginning of this summer for a whopping 300 bucks and is a little fun project.

The dates have been announced on the SaabFestival website as June 7 to 10, 2007.

A bunch of us from Australia are also planning to travel to Sweden. A couple of people have already got their travel arrangements sorted out but for most of us it's still 'in the works' so to speak.

My wife and I are looking at staying at a hostel - there are two in Trollhattan - hopefully not already filled with bookings! My annual leave is currently rostered for April so I need to get that shifted to June. Also need to renew my passport and maybe get an international driving permit (though it's not needed for Sweden). We get a 50 percent discount off the cost of a IDP for being in a car club here in Australia, so an IDP will cost me A$25.

What's available in terms of car hire in Sweden? Would prefer to drive a Saab of course.

Craig.

PS. I've posted info about the Saabfestival in my site's forums also.

I'm all for chipping in on a car rental with a couple other people, and getting a place to stay in Gothenburg (Goteborg), which is about 40 miles out from Trollhattan. I'm not opposed to an hour drive in the morning and evening every day if it means better/cheaper lodging, and if the night life in gothenburg is good.

I've had an email back from one of the hostels in Trollhattan and they can't take any more advance bookings. The same email address appears when searching for the other hostel in Trollhattan so it looks like that's going to be off the list of accomodation options. I think that a real hotel is going to be way overboard price-wise.

Just have to keep plugging away and see what we can find, but I'd suspect that even now most of the available accomodations in and around Trollhattan will be close to getting booked out for early June. sigh.

Not knowing anything about the area, I don't know where Gothenburg is, but 40 km's in Sweden is probably not bad unlike 40 km's here in Sydney which is a nightmarish proposition in the morning and afternoon peak periods!

Craig.

I just bought my ticket from Boston to Göteborg, stopping in Reykjavík for two days on the way home. If I rent anything to drive it's gonna be something not available in the USA (e.g. Renault Megane, Ford Ka, etc.).

Wow that is a killer idea, because that is going to be the biggest cost.

I guess in '97 Saab sort of helped the people from America get over there, like group airfare and accomodations and cars to drive and stuff. I'm not totally sure about what all they did. My parents went in '97 and are pissed that Saab isn't being so helpful this time around.

Yeah I think if we could work out something with someone in the travel business we could get a lot more people over there. I know Im too lazy to set this thing up until the last minute so it would be nice if someone could organize it all:lol:

I'm going over with two friends who happen to be boyfriend-girlfriend so they're going to be leaving me on my own for a few days after the Jubilee to go off together before we meet back up and head to Iceland. So if there are going to be any of you sticking around after the Jubilee I'd be happy to meet up.
