removing seized 235e engine crank bolts?

Hello,

I'm removing a 2.3 4cyl engine from a wagon, and was originally planning to take the engine out independent of trans.

However, I can't access all the flywheel bolts as the engine is seized - I have two out.

Any ideas?

I was thinking about smashing the oil plan off and taking the bearings out, but these oil plans are kind of precious right? And nice to have a spare?



Seems like otherwise I have to take tranny & engine out top complete? (axle nuts off, separate ball joints, blah blah.

why do you need to remove the flywheel to take the engine out?
drop it from under ..... like castor troy said you dont have to remove the flywheel to disconnect the trans from the motor
Maybe it's and Automatic and he is trying to remove the Bolts that attach the Flexplate (automatic transmissions flywheel) to the torque converter.

So the motor is seized up that good huh? You can't get a good breaker bar on the crank shaft pulley and get it to rotate?

mines an autotragic .... thats what i did too .... easiest way is to drop the motor and trans as one unit under neath instead of using a engine lift and raising it through the tiny gap .... and seperate it on the floor

Yes you are right - autotranny flywheel - flexplate sorry!

The crankshaft pully bolt sure must be in there good now from torquing!
I've broken 2 ratchets (good thing lifetime warrenty) and put two big dudes on a breakerbar and no luck.

By taking it out the top I was trying to avoid the axle nuts and ball joints.
I have used a long sheet metal cutter in the air hammer. Kills the flex-plate but thats it. Could also pull the trans off leaving the converter. Then get in behind maybe to the nuts. Either way will bend/ kill the flex-plate.
Agreed, easier to drop it pot the bottom as a whole unit, but without a lift that's tough. Try dropping the oil pan and taking off bearing caps to get it to spin. Even with all the bolts out those torque converters come off the flex plate hard. I'm still not sure the engine will have enough clearance to come out the top with the auto in place. I think you're still gonna need to pull the axles out because you'll need to push that tranny as far away from the engine as possible. Good luck...maybe a pic or 2 if you pull this juggling act off
